For those of you who market your own creations, how did you come up with your name and logo/label? What method of labeling do you use, custom order, create your own? Thanks for the tips!

When I was working my candle business I designed my own logo and labels. I'm lucky in the fact that I know photoshop very well. However, I did outsource the brochure and some of the photos.
If you want an inexpensive logo design, try holding a logo contest at sitepoint.com. You can have a logo contest for $50 and you will get a ton of entries.
The label is easier once you have your logo, then you just have to decide if you want a genericlabel with the scent on it, or go for a different image theme and color based on your scent.
It all depends on your time and skill level with graphic programs. I initially went with a generic label, since I knew we would be offering 100 or more scents. I did not want to create 100 different labels. :)
Hope this helps.

Oh and the name of your business... That was luck for me. We threw around a ton of names and found one that stuck and was not being used. My mother-inlaw kept the name when she took over the business. We also made sure it was available as a domain too.
Expressive Candles is the name.

I use paintshop for my logos and labels. Brochures I use WordPerfect - there is a three section layout that you can use, but I couldn't tell you exactly where to find it (it's been way too long, and I just keep editing the same file).
Our name is somewhat boring - "Prairie" being part of the town the business is in (Prairie City), and "Soy candles" is what we do. It may be boring, but there's no question as to what we sell lol.

Thanks for those tips. I figured a generic label was the way to go. Another thing, and this may be a silly question, but when you start selling, do you have to charge sales tax? I know there are all sorts of rules on sales tax depending on the state.

Oh yeah! You need to check your state in Ohio we only pay it 2 times a year and it is all done online now its pretty easy and they have people to help you figure it out also. I guess I should have said first Im talking about sales taxes! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
