Hi all...

It's been quite awhile since I've posted here, but I need some help and decided to come back to the place I've always gotten the best response to my Direct Sales inquiries...you gals are a wealth of info and knowledge!

My darling daughter age 18 is wanting to follow mama's footsteps and start a direct sales business. I need info on some businesses that would appeal to her and her age groupas I believe that is where her sales would come from initially. Purses? Jewelry?

My biz has had to take a backseat due to a new job that I started....I'm hoping to pick it back up in the spring, but I would love to help her get something started....she is a natural salesperson and was brought up in direct sales!

Any help or info you have would be greatly appreciated!

Hey Lisa! I think jewelry or something in the fashion field would be great for a girl your daughters age!I think she should to with a company that has a straightforward compensation plan, a great product with a great guarantee and a home office that is 100% about supporting their field. Of course, Latasia embodies all of those things, LOL, as do many other companies I'm sure.

If you would like information on Latasia just let me know. I'm available at 318-567-1510 any time or by email at kkandrod@hughes.net I hope to get the opportunity to share all of Latasia's amazing details with you and your daughter!!

Best wishes on her finding the right company for her and you helping her get it up and going. Y'all are going to have a blast!!

Hi Lisa,
The college age crowd is usually very receptive to spa parties! They will spend their money on good skin care and fabulous bodycare items to look and smell great. Sensaria's concept is "Bring the Spa Home" and while mostpeople can't afford to go the the spa as often as they might like, they can get the same high quality products at a fraction of the cost to use at home and get the same results. Example-we have a rejuvenating salt mud for those "trouble areas" that we wish were smoother...the same treatmentwould cost $115 a week to have a spa rub you down with but our jar holds 6 treatments for only $40 and it works great!
I think jewlery, purses or spa would all be a great fit for your daughter's group and she would be able to branch out from there to other crowds too. Of course with spa it is a consumable so that is a nice bonus. We also have a program where customers can buy a membership to receive 20 % off all their online purchases for a year. A great deal off already competive prices and less work for your daughter.
How wonderful that you have been able to pass on to her a skill (selling) that will help her in so many aspects of her life! If you want any info about a spa business with Sensaria PM me. You can see our line at my website in profile.
Blessings on her search for that perfect match! Amanda

Hi Lisa,

My daughter is turning 18 this month and is in her Freshman year at college. The young ladies at school love the jewelry that she wears, which of course is the Sarah Coventry Jewelry Line, LOL. Also with most College Students having a limited budge, it helps with the Customer Specials we always offer. I have been very successful with this age group, they tend to buy jewelry and love to get together at the shows.

If you would be interested in leanring more about the Sarah Coventry commitment to consultants, hostesses and customers, feel free to contact me. You can also go online to learn more www.sarahcoventry.com/kcarter (http://www.sarahcoventry.com/kcarter) Your daughter can also earn her kit without having to put down a monetary investment - I can explain how that is done.

My telephone number is 336-407-6089. I wish your daughter much happiness, success and many blessings,Edited by: kjewelry

I would say jewelry or makeup, but she also might want to look into some type of scrap booking business if she is planning to go to college. My daughter is a sophomore in college and the girls rooms are just full of pictures of family and friends. I can't tell you how many pictures she has from football games and then there is always a ton of pictures when everyone is home for the holidays!

I have to agree with the 'SPA' concept...I'm with a different company that the lady above, but it's HUGE right now.

My sister is 17 and counting down to the day that she can sign with BeautiControl...lol!

Good skincare and great smelling products are important!

As a consultant she can win jewelry...who could ask for anything better...lol!

Good luck on your daughters decision...what fun!!

Lisa ~

Hi! GREAT for you daughter! I think that is AWESOME at such a young age she wants to start her own business! #1 she'll make WAY more money than working PT at the mall and #2 what an experience! She'll learn SO MUCH that she can use in other areas the rest of her life!

I agree jewelry might be GREAT for her and her friends! There are SO many great companies out there but MY suggestion would be to look at companies that have a wide appeal - different lines, price points and styles so after she gets started with her friends maybe she can branch out to the friends' moms and other women in the community, etc.

I'll PM you my link ~ we have some GREAT pieces! I know my 15 year old babysitter LOVED some of our things and wanted to know if I'd do a party at her house when she is doing this big pom (she's on the squad) sleepover thing. Her mom loved the catalog too! (but different pieces! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif) And because we are so new not alot of people have heard of us yet which is great for getting bookings!!

Whatever she decides there are some GREAT ladies on here and some great companies so I wish her TONS of success in her new venture! How exciting! You must be so proud of her! I think this shows tons of maturity and "thinking outside the box".

Good Luck!

I have a 19 yr old daughter who is very interested in business as well. I've shown her the catalogs from all of the jewelry companies and she loves to make her list of things she wants! I asked her what her friends would buy from these catalogs and her answer was, "They would buy anything from 'this' catalog, nothing from 'this one', and probably a lot from 'this' one. BUT, college students don't have the money to spend on this stuff and if they want something like this, they go to Kohl's where it's usually on sale." So, take that for what it's worth. She would like to have a party sometime and earn the free stuff!

I think if your daughter found a group of girls who do spend a lot of money on clothing and jewelry and shoes she would be very successful, probably the older girls who are working more and not relying so much on Mom for money.
Just my opinion...

Kim

ps... maybe AVON? Just remembered they have jewelry and stuff that the college girls could afford. Just don't know how much they'd like the line Avon has. But, it's makeup, jewelry and clothes. Just a thought.Edited by: ksbell

Her age is a factor but what are her interests? hobbies?
Does she primp & preen before leaving the house?
Does she color coordinate her room?
What stores on the mall are her first stop?
That may help focus in a direction.

Does she want to market online, one to one, home parties,
craft shows?

Does she want to take orders? or do cash & carry?

College girls love make up and jewelry IMO. Another good one could be candles! I would say that those three would be good to research. She could also hit the male clientale with jewelry by selling to them so they can give gifts to their girlfriend, mom etc. Another good one to include both male and female clientale is Pampered Chef! What college kid doesn't like to EAT! Speaking of eating, what about a Gourmet food company like Megan's Pantry! Low start up, easy to sell and she could build a great downline! I'd be happy to send you info on that company!
I would definitely encourage her to choose something that doesn't require a huge investment in inventory to keep her initial costs down. Also, something that comes with a starter kit that has everything she needs to start without buying additional supplies or demo items. It would also be good to go with a company that pays a great commission and has a super hostess program!
T
wo jewelry companies that come to mind as being right up her ally are Latasia and Jewels By Parklane. White Lily Candles has spa products too in addition to candles, so that could be fun!

Price points are going to be very important with this group. Not to say that she won't be selling to other age demographics, it is just that she will most likely start with her peers and perhaps their mothers.

Wish her the best in her search! I think it is great that she wants to do Direct Sales! Let us know what she chooses!

Thank you all so much! I appreciate all your input.
As for her interests I'd say:
make-up
jewelry
purses ( preferably big names..gucci, chanel etc)
cooking & baking
crafts
In no certain order!

If you think of any other companies let me know!
You all are the best!

purses ( preferably big names..gucci, chanel etc)

Just be careful with that one - someone around here was having a "designer purse party" with all the BIG names. She had a huge sign there stating that she could not guarantee authenticity. One person said that selling them are illegal - even if you don't claim they are real it is breaking copyright laws?? I have no idea truthfully but curious I did research it online since my sister wanted to have a party and yes, there are TONS of people selling "knock offs" but alot of the info online said it's illegal AND that the manufacturing plants in China and other countriesthat make these fakes have child labor, bad working conditions and the money made from these fakes have been linked to terriorism.

I know that I was VERY confused about it since the "purse parties" are SO HOT but here is the info I found and the first link is from Inside Edition...

Just be careful ...
