View Full Version : Should I go?

There is a networking opportunity in my area the first week of November. While I do have an invitation to attend, this seems a little out of my league. It's a group for professional women in business and technology. Most of the women involved have working titles like, VP of this, Sr. VP of that. There are also business owners and attorneys and physicians in the group. The evening will consist of networking, hearing a guest speaker, and the opportunity to bid in a silent auction for a local women's group.

Part of me really wants to go. It will be a push outside of my comfort zone, which is good. I could network with other professionals, which is good. More practice talking about what I do, and who knows, maybe even book a show or two. And I totally believe in surrounding yourself with successful people.

The other part of me says this is way out of my league. Should little me be attending an event with attorneys and physicians? Little ol' home party plan me?? I will not know a single soul there. And I'm worried that I will be really out of place amongst all these other professional women.

What do you guys think?

Leah I think you should go. If, as you put it, little ole you got an invitation, I'm sure other party plan ladies as successful as you are were invited as well. And even if there's no one else in party plan there, you might meet women in corporate america that are looking to get out of that situation. I would definitely go. If nothing else, you'll get to feel good about being included as a true blue businesswoman even though you aren't corporate, know what I mean? Just my opinion :-)

You should definitely go to this seminar. I work a full time job with a title in addition to doing direct sales. These are great for networking. You will only benefit from this opportunity.

Hey Leah? Are you gonna go? If you are, let me know. I might need you to ask one of those high power lawyers there about something for me :-)

God Bless!

I would definately go. I used to belong to a local business group and was able to get some orders from them for secretary's day. I then moved out of the area and don't belong anymore but still received orders for a few years afterwards. I really think you should go and let them know about your business. The important thing to remember is you are the President of your own Independant Consultantship (not sure if that is a word or not). So make sure you don't let them know that you almost didn't attend or that you feel a bit inadequate compared to what they do for a living. Walk and talk like you belong there and they will be attracted to you. I've been able to barter with them also - got some free dental work done once because I bartered. smileys/smiley1.gif

Krystal,

If you need legal advice, most attorneys offer a free 30 minute consultation.

Also, let's just say this matter has to do with money (just taking a guess! smileys/smiley2.gif) you might have rights since it is not apart of a bakruptcy filing.
