I was checking out Rent A Coder today and look what I found:
The designer needs to be really fast and deliver good results. Also, I will not be able to pay more than $2 per hour. A 3 page site (home, about and contact) template normally takes around 15 to 20 hours by my existing designer.
$2 an hour? Is he joking? And he expectsyou to be really fast ANDgood? What's really sad is he's had 9 people bid on it smileys/smiley19.gif
Libby (who thought she was horribly underpriced asking for $15/hour!)

Yeah! 9 people bid to work for $2 an hour on web design! You can make like three times that working at McDonalds! I am just appalled!

His existing designer?
Sounds like he needs to give that job to them, and I'd wonder who's already doing work for $2 an hour...
Also, when does it take 15-20 hours to setup a 3 page web template?

I'd guess it takes that long to make the 3 page site when the cheap so
and so you are working for only pays $2 an hours. LOL
Got make the money somehow. Besides, if a designer is willing to
work for that amount they either have NO experience, or no ability in
the field. Both of which might explain the 15-20 hours.
*sigh*
Such a world we live in. smileys/smiley18.gif

Digimom brought up a very good point to me in my vent post today. These people wouldn't be caught dead asking and/or demanding what they do if we were face-to-face with them.
When online, I think it really brings out the worst in people sometimes. Or maybe this is how they always are, and when in public, they put on a great charade?
You never see people going to their doctor and saying that they need a particular surgery or procedure done, but are only willing to pay a small fraction of worth...and then expect to have it done quickly and like a pro....DUH.
Anyway...thanks again, Kathie. I am starting to feel a lot better and ready to get started on my projects for the day.

That is really sad. And pretty much the reason I stopped going to Guru.com, Freelancer, etc. What people expected and the price they were willing to pay just wasn't worth it!
But, unfortunately it is not just online. I got together one time with a local contact. He told me he wanted me to design him a "kick A" (his words, not mine)website and make it very imaginative and creative. Then he told me, but I don't want to pay you anything for it.smileys/smiley7.gif(Apparently my time and skill were worth nothing?)

smileys/smiley7.gifOMGosh, Teresa! You didn't take him on as a client, did you? I guess at least he was upfront telling you he wasn't going to pay! Better to find out sooner than later.smileys/smiley36.gif Edited by: chrlstoncharmed

Iwonder what some of these guys would say/do if we gave it right backattem just the same way. Example, with the local gas station guy who wants you to design his display ads for less than minimum wage: "Thanks for the work, buddy. Now I'm going to get you to fill my tank but I don't want to pay more than 1.50 for it. Oh, and by the way, you should dance the watusi and clean my windshield while you're pumping my gas..." http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gifAh, day-dreams...

I needed that bit of sarcasm to get me laughing this morning...almost better than a cup of java.
HEY, make sure you have called the local news channel too to get in on the 6 o'clock news...heheheh :)

I'm truelyembarrased to say, that I did. smileys/smiley9.gifIt was back when I first started and I was gullible. He said he knew a bunch of people that needed websites and he was really going to help me get my business going and give me regular customers.
Like I said, I was gullible and brand new to the business. (I started over a year ago.) I will obviously never agree to something like that again.
And he never did send even one customer my way. smileys/smiley7.gifsmileys/smiley9.gif

Yeah... that's the competition on some of these freelance sites.
When you take into account that the Indian rupee (at least a few years
back when I was traveling there) was 40 rupees to a dollar... Well,
they aren't making bad money at $2/hour.
Yikes. smileys/smiley5.gif
