Hello Everyone! I'm sooo glad I have finally found a website I can trust in for help! WHOO HOOOO

I want to make my own soy candles and I am hoping that you all can direct me to the best companies to purchase stuff I need from:

Fragrances, soy wax, wicks, containers...just about everything I guess! Thank you for any ideas you can all offer! :) Evelyn

Hi Evelyn and welcome aboard. I am sorry I do not know of any suppliers for making your own candles. It is awesome that you want to do that. I thought about doing it myself but went with Mia Bella instead.

Let us know when you are up and running. Look forward to seeing your site if you have one.

Hi Evelyn,

If you would like me to give you some info just pm me. I actually am making my own soy candles and I love it. I have looked at a lot of websites so maybe I can give you some helpful tips. Are you looking for a company to join that gives you one place to order from or differents suppliers?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Welcome to the boards!

Before you buy anything read as much as you can. I can't tell you how many people go out and buy a bunch of supplies to get started only to find out they'd like to go in a different direction. (How do I know this? I still have an 11 pound brick of paraffin wax at the back of a shelf in my studio!)

I belong to a yahoo group that I think is the most educational place for any candle maker- just starting out or experienced. Search for candlemakingsurvival at groups.yahoo.com You'll be able to read the archives that are packed full of helpful info on sizing your wicks, different types of waxes and fragrances. You'll find a lot of info about testing your products and a good deal on insurance and safety, too.

Feel free to pm me. I'd be happy to help you brainstorm, design your labels, find suppliers that suit your needs as well as help you get a web site or print materials started. Just let me knowhow I can help!

Hi Evelyn,

Here are a couple of websites that carry candle making supplies. I used to do lotions and shower gels. I had to quit when I decided to go back to college. Working full time and taking care of 3 boys and a husband is another full time job too. smileys/smiley29.gifAt any rate I used www.buywax.com (http://www.buywax.com) this was a good website it had everything. Candle wax (soy, etc.),containers, and wicks. The good thing about this site is that they accepted all forms of payment even C.O.D. You don't find many that still do that. The other company that I had considered using is www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com (http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com) they have a wide variety of items too. I recently received and email from them telling me that they now have sites that teach you how to make candles and soaps. So, you may want to check them out too. I hope this helps.

Hope you have fun making candles.

Here are some great ones that I have dealt with.

www.kycandlewaxsupply.com (http://www.kycandlewaxsupply.com)

www.bluegrasscandlesupply.com (http://www.bluegrasscandlesupply.com)

www.candlesandsupplies.com (http://www.candlesandsupplies.com)- This may be the best one for you beacuse they offer everything.

www.candlesupply.com (http://www.candlesupply.com)

When it comes to candle making, I try to focus on a comapny I can get the most supplies as possible from one place to save on shipping and sorts. The first two links listed are from ones in my area and I love them, the only problem is they dont offer containers. I used to have my own candle business, and did very well, and loved it!!!! But now with teo toddlers and living in a apartment, its hard to really make them anymore. That is why I went with a company that had them already made for me and I still make a good profit, This company also had the closest ones to what I had sold before, which helped with the clinentel I had built up. I wish you the best of luck, and if you have any questions whatso ever about making candles just let me know and I can help you!!smileys/smiley1.gif

My best advice is to really do your homework on how to make candles and what different types of blends are out there before you start looking to buy any supplies. Understand your start up costs, and how long you will be in debt before they start paying off. There's so many different types of wax now, you'll want to know exactly what you want and how to make it before you start. We decided on pure soy wax because of our location (soy bean capital - Iowa), and that's been a big selling point in this area. Knowingyour market is important!

Second, there's lots of groups and suggestions out there on which wicks to use, what supplier is best, which scents are good, and so on. You'll be hard pressed to find many that give out their exact combination of wax, wick, and scent. However, there's many guides you can find thatwill give you an idea ofwhich wicks work with whatsize candle, andother little details.

Hope that helps!

I would agree with everyone in being very sure about making your own
candles. I just had a new distributor join me in my Mia Bella
business after trying a "make your own candles" business. She
lost alot of money in product in the learning process and found it to
be very time consuming. It was at least 15 minutes of complaining
about it on the phone. The husband has serious issues with the
kitchen being turned into a factory too! lol

I believe anyone could be successful in a make your own product
business if they love making crafts, and have LOTS of room in the home
to turn it into a manufacturing plant. Then you add the time
needed to get out and sell what you've made, meeting with customers,
delivering, etc. It's two jobs in one business!
