Hi Everyone,

I am planning on making my own website here pretty soon. I've done a lot of researching, but I was wondering where everyonehere actually createstheir initial websites...not hosting for them.

I was reading hosting FAQ on Lycos and they recommend Angelfire or Tripod for a website. I'm a little confused.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif

Cost isn't really a factor at this time, I just want to researchall options and figured this would be the best place to come ask opinions and get advice.

Thanks everyone for your help! I appreciate it!
Jamie

http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley25.gifWhy not just use Notepad or an HTML editor? I use DreamWeaver and notepad. You don't need to use Angelfire or Tripod for creating webpages ... but maybe I'm not understanding the question. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif

You know, I never thought about that! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gifI had my mind set one way (on the website and the builders included) thinking it was probably the easiest way and wasn't really thinking about anything else.

Thanks for your suggestion - I'm going to look moreinto that. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Some of the systems have editors that are integrated with the hosting solution so you sort of avoid having to learn too many different pieces of software.
When I first started, and actually to this day, I used Front Page Express. It used to come with the Windows oprating system. It's Front Page but without the steroids -- aka tags, specs to ONLY work with IE, etc.

I also used the Netscape Composer which used to come with Netscape. You can still get it with older versions of Netscape.

I used them because they were *free* and were very basic while still giving me a lot of flexibility http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Now that is the way to go, the best and sure way to create a viable and working web site is first to do your own indepth research. <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Research and compare, that is the right thing to do and I'm really proud that you are doing exactly that. You see when I started, the excitement took the better lot of me and I rushed in. Of course you can guess what happened, Lost money and valuable time.

Just want to hope the best for you and I believe soon or rather you will find a perfect solution to what you are looking for.

I started on notepad and used it for many years - to me it was just easier - I couldn't figure out how to work editors until I *had* to learn dreamweaver for a job. :)

A plus for using something like Notepad is that you can take your site anywhere and not be limited to a certain host because they're the only one with the software you use to build your site.

If you don't want to buy Dreamweaver, I recommendits opensource (free) equivalent Kompozer (http://kompozer.net/).
