Stampin Up... I LOVE LOVE LOVE there products and I have a blast at
there parties... But I live in a small community of 15,000+ folks
and there is already 5 consultants in my home town... I am not
going to committe to something that I feel might already be
oversaturated, so I want to know what you all thing about the fact that
there is already 5 in town and I would also like to know any info you
care to share about Stampin Up. I don't know how much commission
they make or anything really so please feel free to share with
me. Thanks!

I don't know much about their commission schedules, but I wouldn't worry about how many others there are. I would take into consideration how much each of those others works their business though. Some people do this as a hobby, so while they may be in your town, do they actually hold parties? If you're planning to work at this really hard, you can actually become a higher sales person than they are just simply for the amount of work you put into it. If you're only wanting to do this for yourself and maybe some friends then I think you can do that too successfully! You won't be doing lots of parties, so it doesn't matter how many others there are. Either way you look at it you have to make yourself a business plan for whatever reason you're in this business. And stick with it!

Plus, I'm sure you all run in different circles and probably won't bump into each other very oftensmileys/smiley4.gif

You love it and that's what's going to matter in your business, kwim?

Good luck!!

Yes, I agree with above. 5 is not many at all in 15,000. I would not call that saturated at all. Is there a stampinup folder in here, perhaps you could contact them directly for their compensation info.Or contact the consultant whos party you were at.

Good luck!

Thanks Lisa and Kim, you are both very right! Well I am going to
contact the one gal with a website and ask her for some more
info. And if I am still excited then I'll write out a business
plan. Thanks ladies!!!!smileys/smiley1.gif

Thank you Debra, I looked for a folder and I didn't see one... but I
know a consultant that doesn't live here and there are the five in town
so I am thinking about the one who will be most inspirational.
Thanks again ladies!!smileys/smiley1.gif

Don't hesitate to "interview" the person you want to recruit you. I did that with my current company. I didn't like the first person I spoke with but knew I wanted to sell so I found someone I felt I was compatible with. And boy am I glad now that I've really seen how the original person works. I'd never be where I am if I'd gone with her!

Thank you Lisa, I kinda had that happen with my current business, I
can't blame it all on her, but I think I need to do something that I
can have fun with and be more myself. And I was just thinking
about "interviewing" the person I sign up under... I hadn't ever
thought of it before with my current business and I think it's a GREAT
idea!

Erin - I just joined close to my heart (they have stamps & scrapping supplies). I was worried, too, as my town is very small. There are some stampin up ladies and some that do scrapbooking, but since ctmh has both, and their stamps are acrylic so you can see thru them, I thought I'd give it a try. You have over 3x the population as I do, so I wouldn't worry about 5 other consultants!!

You will do well if you provide superior service and develop relationships with your existing customers. When you give great service, they will want to do business with just you.

Good luck!

I don't think 5 is too many at all! When I was with Creative Memories, I was the first one in my town of 5,000 to be a consultant. I started having people asking me about the business opportunity and I was scared cause I kept thinking that I didn't want to give up any customers! smileys/smiley36.gif That was so silly! How could I ever service even half that many people??? I couldn't.

So, I started recruiting and the next thing I knew, I had 4 downline under me that were all from my town! We'd do group mailings in bulk for our quarterly newsletters and we were shocked that we had very, very little duplicates. In the few instances that we did have duplicates, we'd figure out how we knew that person and who had contacted them first, and worked it all out very easily....

So 5 in 15,000? No problem at all! And don't be afraid to recruit yourself!! Don't forget, if they are under you, you'll be making commission off their sales too!

Good luck to you!

Bev

Thank you for sharing that, Bev.

You are so right! I drive through town and I think to myself, if I service only a small fraction of these people... there are a lot more people in a neighborhood than you think.

Just do it and have fun!

Yeah Bev you are so right!! I love to hear other's thought on
this, because some always thinks of something I haven't thought of
before. Thank you!!!smileys/smiley1.gif

You know... now that I've been searching on stamping--card making and
scrap booking.. I have found more than one option.... I knew they were
there I just never looked at all of them. So it got me
thinking... I am currently a SLAH consultant and I don't do my business
but, VERY little, I've only had a few parties this year and my point is
this... I love to be creative I always have and with SLAH I have to
carry 2 big rubbermaid boxes full of stuff (by choice so folks can see
12+ items) and it's heavy and big, with stamping or scraping I could
proably carry 1/2 the weight and I really love to be creative. So
I think I am going to switch... I feel a little guilty though... but
excited too. AHHhhhh Life is good!

EVERY home owner owns a refrigerator, you still see them in stock at Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, etc, don't you?smileys/smiley36.gif

hi erin, i would definitely not worry about the 5. i read recently that that type of thing doesn't matter because the odds of your circles crossing are slim just as someone else here mentioned. you get different guests at each party. It is probably good to meet the others in your area too in case you are overbooked or can't do a show, you can share leads with them. or maybe you are short a product you may be able to help each other out. maybe too with splitting costs at a booth or other promotional event. but if you feel there are too many from that particular company then maybe join one that is slightly different like that close to your heart??? i just recently joined Passion Parties but did my research and found it to be the most reputable. so definitely check the companies out and make sure they will be around a while. at PP started in 1994 that is another reason why i chose the company i am with. good luck with what ever you choose!

Hi Erin,

Since it's so cold (rather Freezing) here in Texas I thougth about doing a search for Stampin' Up! threads and came across this one. You're probably already a demonstrator.

If so, how's it going for you? And, if not, are you still interested in signing up? February is a great month to do that b/c of the Sell-a-bration promotion.

Feel free to PM me or email me at rememberKim@verizon.net (rememberKim@verizon.net).

thanks and happy stampin'
