Ok, for those not interested, I apologize :-) But Bianca asked to see our new furbaby's pics and of course, I'm very happy to oblige, lol.

So, here ya go bianca, here are pics of our Rocky boy at 11 weeks old. He's 16 weeks old now and he's grown ALOT! I'll take some new pics of him soon and post one or two of those for ya if you'd like.

OMG! He is gorgeous! He's got awesome ear tips, markingsand great structure (that is something our Main Coon breeder would say).

They do get huge! I remember ours at 16 weeks - compared to other cats, he looked full grown already.

They are like dogs where you can train them to fetch. What an awseome animal!

Thanks for sharing Krystal - I can't wait to show the pics to my girls!

Main Coons are very gentle animals. They act as thought they don't even think they are cats (just don't have those usual cat characteristics). They're huge and sometimes look fearce, but they are so sweet and love people!

I can't tell you how many folks just want to take him home with them. Even the vet told me once she'd take him if ever anything happened! LOL!

Bianca, Max is beautiful!!! I'm really curious to see how big Rocky is going to get. We saw his parents when we picked him up and his daddy is HUGE! I've never seen a cat with a head that big! His mom was big but average for female Maine Coons.

They are the sweetest animals. Rocky is the first cat that I've seen that follows you around all over the place. Most of the time he is right with me in the house. He's so good to my son. Cort is only 3 and there have been a couple of times when he's been in his room and I've been elsewhere and I've heard the cat kinda making a whining/crying sound. I run in there and Cort has him picked up hugging him but too tight and the cat is just there. He's making the noise for help but he's not lashing around scratching or trying to bite Cort to get away. It blows my mind how gentle he is. And he keeps going back to Cort too! Anyway, I keep working with Cort and he's getting better. He hasn't hurt Rocky other than hugging him too tight so that's good for a rambunctious 3 year old I guess, lol,

He's so funny though. He drags around his toy that the lady we bought him from sent with him. It was the fishing pole type of toy but he broke it the first time he played with it so now he's just got the bell/feather type part and the elastic string that was tied to the pole. He drags it around just like dogs do with toys and plays with it. I really think he'd bury it if he had some dirt to bury it in, lol. He's so loving and does the headbutting thing all the time. I love it except at night when we are trying to sleep LOL. We go round and round at night cuz I can't stand something in my face when I'm trying to sleep and he's just like "I don't care how many times you put me down I'm GOING to sleep with you and love on you and headbutt and plop down right on your head and face!" So, I don't know what we are going to do about that but right now when he's littler it's ok. What am I going to do when he's 25 lbs trying to do that? LOL

Bianca, if you would like to see Rocky's dad here's the link to his pic: http://www.mainecoonsfromgretta.net/Cowboys.html (http://www.mainecoonsfromgretta.net/Cowboys.html) He is a Quadruple Grand Champion so I guess that's a good sign??? I don't know, the lady made a big deal out of it though. Anyway, he's the third down I think, Cheeptrills Cactus Jack. He doesn't look NEAR as big as he is in person! Beware of the music, you might want to mute your speakers before youopen the link. OH and his grandpa on his mom's side is at the bottom of that page, Meshach. He's GORGEOUS and he's a big ole guy too!

Ok, so glad to know there's a fellow MC lover on the board!!! Can ya tell I'm in love with our new furbaby? LOL

Girls, I am so jealous. Your cats are gorgeous. I have always wanted a maine coon and hopefully that will be my next cat (through a rescue though). I was dying to have a ragdoll and found one on a rescue site so I got that.- amaine coon is next. Thanks for sharing your great pictures.

Oh Barb, Ragdolls are gorgeous too!! Post a pic for us if you can!! I tried the rescue route but I got frustrated with waiting after many months so I decided to just buy one. There aren't alot of Maine Coons in Louisiana :-( No breeders at all that I found so I guess the instances of them being rescued was rare.

Aww...so cute!! My 3 yr old daughter, Cassidy, is CRAZY about kittycats and chases them anytime she sees them. I would love to get her a Maine coon if they are that gentle. But alas, Daddy hates cats ...and is allergic unfortunately.

I had this LONG reply but when I posted it, I lost connection! Argh. It was probabley a good thing as it may have bored you! LOL!

Anyhow, I did want to say that if you have Rocky fixed, he will not get as big. The hormones are what gives them the thick bold neck and makes them stockier all around. Max is clost to 4 ft from tip of nose to tip of tail and weighs a tad over 14 lbs. It's actually good for him as he does have a heart murmur.

bianca, I'd never get bored reading about MC's!! You know, I've read that they get bigger if they are fixed. But usually that means they get fatter, not necessarily keep growing so I can see your point there. How do you keep Max from spraying if he's not neutered? Since we aren't going to breed Rocky I was actually going to have the procedure done because I've been told that animals stay healthier if they are fixed and because I didn't want to have to deal with him spraying everything. Your input on this would be greatly appreciated!!!

Bianca:

Those pictures are wonderful. They are magnificent looking MC. What is the best type brush to use for grooming a long hair? My ragdoll really gets matted. He hates being brushed.

Oh I'm sorry if I worded it wrong. Max is fixed. We had him fixed at about 20weeks. We never intended on breading and with his heart murmur it just wouldn't be fair to take that chance of having a litter with the same problem.

Max is much smaller than his father - thickness wise - like his neck. We are just lucky he is thin, but he eats like a horse! On another note, our female (she'sfrom theanimal rescue) is also fixed and a little on the chubby side.

However, the vet said that fixing them doesn't guarantee they won't spray. I have heard ofthem still spraying after they are fixed. One thing I was told is that if you do it before they are six monthsold they are less likely to spray. The reason for that is because their hormones haven't fully developed. Anyhow that is what our vet said and Max has never sprayed.

We were fortunateenough (and close enough) to use the same vetthat the breader uses. She used to see all of the breaders Maine Coons and I go ONLY to her - I am sure to always ask for her specifically.

Barb,
I just have a regular plastic brush we picked up when we got them (6 years ago) that has worked fine. It has a flat rectangular head on it with the handle at a tilt - does that make sense? However, I have heard that this is a good brush:

http://www.healthypets.com/furminatorcat.html?OVRAW=cat%20brush%20furminator& OVKEY=cat%20brush%20furminator&OVMTC=standard&OVAD ID=12878728011&OVKWID=95271054011

See, the thing with Main Coons isthey have a silky fur and they don't matt up. We try to brush them at least a couple times a week - even a quick sweep across their backs and bellies. This also helps with the shedding and our allergies (my daughter and I are allergic to cats)!

My Ragdoll loves to be brushed.. I use a regular cat brush as well as some bath wipes that I got at the pet store.

I haven't noticed Rocky shedding much at all. We use a brush that Wal-Mart carries, nothing special. I brush him whenever I think about it. Not because he's matting or anything but because he likes it and well, I do too, lol.

On Max being fixed, I probably just read the post wrong Bianca, lol. I probably will go ahead and get him neutered just because of reading and being told how much better it is on their health if they aren't being bred. I mean, I would love to have a 25/30 lb naturally huge MC but I would rather have a healthier cat for the next 20 years than a "trophy" cat, ya know? I'm sure he will still be a big boy regardless. I don't think he has a choice, lol.

Hi! I love the pictures. The cats are gorgeous (and great pictures as well) Looking at them, I believe my one cat (I have 3 plus one tolerant awesone dog) may be a Maine Coon or a MC Mix. He has the same body shape, large head and he is huge! He is a black/white tuxedo. We found him on a walk and I was immediately struck by how striking he looked. After I pet him, he followed me all the way home -- running at tiimes to keep up. lol I think he knew he found a great meal ticket. :) I tried to find his owner, because I thought he is such a beautiful cat that I found it hard to believe hemay be abandoned. Never did.

We call him Cosmo and he is very much the charmer. If anyone comes over, he is most certain to greet them at some point after he makes his grand entrance into the room. No one ever forgets him after meeting him. :)

He and my one other cat were the strays and my other cat and dog are from our local humane shelter. All have wonderful dispositions.

And note: my husband never thought he would be living in a home with a cat, much less than with three. But even he admits that they are good cats -- as cats go, in his opinion. :)
