OK - I have been an SD rep since late April and I am having one big problem - I am horrible with names! I have tried and tried to catch my customer's names at parties, but I seem to only get maybe half down by the time it is over. Of course my big spenders and potential hostesses are easy, but the rest just fade away. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif
So here is my question: Do any of you do nametags for guests at parties? If so, how have they worked for you and how have people reacted? If no, then what tricks do you use to remember people's names?
Just so you know I got the idea while looking at nametag stickers on www.businessenhancements.com (http://www.businessenhancements.com). They have a cute one that says "My name is......but my friends call me Diva."
Thanks!

One thing I've been doing is an idea I got from the Lemonaid Lady, Christie Northrup. I take a journal and call it a "guest book" and pass it around for everyone to sign in with their name, phone and email address. I use this later to add them to my newsletter but since you pass it around in order it is easy to hold the guest book and look down to see who is the 5th one or 7th one etc. I just tell them I meet so many people in my business, this is my little trick for remembering names but to forgive me if I goof. Talk it up like you are doing so many parties how could you possibly remember everyone. LOL Anyway I love the guest book, I also use it for my drawings, I just have the hostess pick a # and whoever is on that line wins. This way if some people don't order I still have their contact info and can follow up with them, too.
I've also heard you should think of something that describes them that starts with their first letter, like Mary Makeup for someone who wears a lot of makeup or Susie Sparkly - it will help you remember later. LOL

I have used name tags and no one seems to mind.

I have gone to parties where I have worn a name tag. I have also used them in my business when there are a lot of people in attendance. Sometimes guests do no know each other. It is a great way for them to remember everyone's name too!

If you feel like using nametags makes some guests uncomfortable - or you're uncomfortable asking them to wear one - make a game out of it. Come up with a game using the tag, and then it's fun for everyone to have it. (And it takes the pressure off of you!)

Definately do introductions or name tags or something! I recently went to a party in the new town I moved to--everyone knew each other but me. I felt very awkward for most of the party until I introduced myself to those around me.
I usually do the "introduce yourself with how you know the hostess"--which helps me remember them. I once did the "take the first letter of your name and say an adjective that describes the hostess". I stopped doing that after our stepmother, Evelyn, said the hostess (my sister) was Evil. She wasn't joking either--I think she was making a religious statement. Very awkward moment.
Sorry for rambling.

Thank you so much for the suggestions ladies! I will certainly try them out, well except perhaps the adjective one. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gifThat is such a shame that people have to be that way, with family no less.

If I have a large group at a home event we actually use our great tools to make name tags. The guests get to try our tools and pens and I get to see their names http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif
