Which do you lead with and why? I'm looking to take my business offline and was wondering what you all do....

I'm not real sure what you are asking? As far as at home parties?

At home shows I first give the hostess her presents for hosting,
briefly mention hostess benefits. Then do half of my
products. Then maybe slip in some Opportunity info or game, then
finish presenting the products.

I hope this helps you!smileys/smiley1.gif

I always lead with product by trying to get a customer to have a
one-on-one appointment or have a show. They fall in love with the
product and then I suggest that they would be good at doing what I do
and tell them about the business asking them if they'd like to know how
they can make money sharing the products they love with others.
IMO, you won't have a strong team if they don't love the product, use
it themselves and want to share it with others.

Is that where you were going with your question?

If I am trying to sell my business I would advertise the op. So, on a board like this one I advertise the op because we all know that they can also purchace from me as well. If I were to put my banner on a childrens site I would advertise the great products.

Where as if I were talking to a mom with a child having a birthday soon I would start off by telling about the product then introduce the biz op at a later date or if I feel she would be interested. It all depends on who you are talking to. What their needs are. Are they looking for a great product or a way to make some extra money? You have to evaluate each person you are talking to.

I guess I'm new to the home party thing. Wasn't sure if I sould do a "sip And Sign" party or more of a PBR (Private Business Reception). Dani trains to sell from the top down, so what if I had a PBR and gave everyone a sample of the product? That way if they decide the business isn't for them, they'd fall into the customer base...vs if I led with the product, I'd lose out on business since they could opt out so to speak...what do you all think?

In my experience in the NWM/MLM industry over the past 12 years, people are much more receptive and more likely to fall in love with a business and stick with it once the join if they love the product.

Hi Kass

Well, I sometimes lead with product, sometimes lead with opportunity, it really depends on the situation or the people I talk to, so I would say I lead with common sense.

I was in direct sell & home party biz before, I love direct selling, just didn't enjoy doing party very much. But, from my experience, home party is a great way to sell products.

You for sure can do a party justto present your biz opportunity, make sure the guests you invite are opportunity seekers, or at least are interested in finding a way to make some extra money, and they know they are coming to a biz opportunity presentation.

I personally lead with the product.

Why? (I'm glad you asked!)
To be truly successful in your business (whatever product you are marketing) you must be passionate and excited about what you are selling. Just because a company has a good pay plan, great support and all the bells and whistles you could ask for does not necessarily mean you will be passionate about the product line. This will become obvious to potential customers and/or business partners.

I say, if your lead is not passionate about the product FIRST,it would be difficult tobe passionate about selling it.

NEITHER!

I lead with an education. Now, wait, before you jump up and down and say, "we all educate about our product, company, etc." Keep in mind the type of product I'm dealing with. This is a product where many people do not know much, or they might 'think' they know a lot but don't, and most feel pretty intimidated about wine no matter who they purchase it from.

I educate them about the product, in general - not just my company's product, and there's the difference. I guess you can think of it as it's my job to help consumers become more comfortable with this product and the whole wine industry in general!

From there, then I will talk about my company's product and what makes us unique but (and this is kind of a confession) I almost never talk about the opportunity! Shame on me.smileys/smiley36.gif

I lead with the biz. I just started doing this and I am having great results. I think my company is a gift to people. I want to help them find freedom with both time and money.

I know they will love the products so if for some reason they don't want to do the biz.. then they can always get the products.

It really depends on the person (prospect)~ Everybody's "WHY's" are different. I listen to their "WHY's", their needs, there likes and dislikes! Then I go from there!

Some folks want to do home parties only, others may want to just catalog share in their community, some want to strictly sponsor, some just want to join for the personal discount, and others just want to be a customer, and so on...... We can do any of those and a combination of those~

I personally promote both because I love both the product and the business.

It was hard for me to vote one way or the other because as I mentioned, I listen to what it is they are interested in, then go from there~smileys/smiley1.gif

The product... That is where the intrest will be "peaked"... If you have a passion for the product... then the rest will follow!

I have always led with the product. Not everyone is interested in a
business, so it may turn them off if they are invited to an event and
heard about the business instead of the product. I know I have been
personally turned off by this. You can always give a hint about the
business at the end of your event- maybe even have another event
scheduled to talk about the biz side.

Well I have had people sign and want to do the biz with out trying the product. I just had a girl sign and bought over 1,000 personal. I have known her for a while and I have used the products 15 yrs.. so she knew they worked.. I had asked her to try the product before.. wasnt' interested.. but when I showed her the biz she signed.. She knew she would like the products.. I guess it depends on your company too.

This is just my .02 cents worth but, if I were you, I would focus more on education about the product and then the business. Customers are great! Without customers, no one would have a business. And, you never know when a customer over time suddenly decides that he/she loves the product so much that they would like to join your time.

My only fear about a business first approach is that there are a good number of people, even if they are looking for a business opportunity, who just plain do not like to feel as though they are being dragged into something. It can be much more difficult to get people to come to an opportunity meeting, as opposed to a "try my product" type of meeting. The less intimidating you can make it, the better.
