Do any of you live and spa in very rural areas? I am in SE oklahoma, and was wondering if any others had problems with introducing BC and the spa concept?

I live in a somewhat rural area...the closest mall is about an hour away although we are big enough to have a Walmart and a Ross...It is a very hippie town as well as lots of farming though so it has been hard...It just takes one spa to really get things going...I started with an open house that just 1 attended, but she booked her own spa and currently I am going from that...the biggest thing is explaining it to people so that they really understand it

I'm also in a somewhat rural area in central IL. Our town has about 5000 people and we are the largest city in about a 50 mile radius. What I've done is let people sample things like SOH and then they are excited. That works for me much better than trying to call people and explain it to them.

I live in Punxsutawney, PA (where Groundhog Day happens). We are very rural the closest city is Pittsburgh and it is 2 hours away.

It is hard to explain the cost benefit to people here because a lot of them do not know what spa treatments or a day spa is. So we focus on relaxation and talking about stress relief. We recently were set up at our festival and demonstrated SOH and different lotions and it went over very well. Once they tried it they loved it.

We do a lot of one on one appointments to start out and then they usually book another that they have friends come toonce they know what it is.

Our director just promoted out in April and we were the top DIQ unit with over 30,000 in retail sales!!! I don't know how we did it, but we did.

Everyone deserves some pampering and if they have skin, they need our treatments and skin care. Makeup is not always a big seller for me yet.

Hi Audrey,
Maybe you could try an open house type thing, either at a church fellowship hall, community hall or even at your place. Just put a short ad in the newspaper for a couple of weeks leading up to it. People can come in and try your products, but you don't have to actually spa them (relaxation, etc.). Offer them $5 off or $10 off (or whatever you can afford) to spend at their spa IF they book right then and hold the spa on the original date. You could serve some snacks and have some products to sell, too. Maybe round up a couple of your consultants that are currently working the biz to help you out. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Maybe set up different stations where people can more or less help themselves. Then have a drawing for a free product or something for everyone who attends.

Just really focus on BOOKING at your event. I would probably also make sure they have at least 4 people at their spa before they get a neckwrap so you won't be out that expense just for spa-ing two people who probably already have neckwraps. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
And stick to your guns on hostess rewards....if you don't get bookings from their spa, they can't have their % off. That will hopefully encourage them to get all their guests and friends to book.

Sarah,

I'm in Watseka. It's about an 1-1/2 hours north of Champaign, 2 hours east of Peoria, 2 hours south of Chicago...right in the middle of a corn field ;-)
