View Full Version : asking for demo - peoples reaction..

I'm new and a little afraid that my friends and the Moms of my kids at school are going to be upset with me for calling and asking them to try to demo kit?? It seems like this is way less to ask than to host a presentation -- but my fears are getting to me!!!
Has anyone experienced bad reactions from friends & parents of your kids friends, or those at church?? Don't want anyone to think I'm trying to take advantage of them or anything...I think offering them the wholesale "preferred client" sign up is a great deal...but still very scared..
I would appreciate any feedback!! thanks!!!

NOBODY likes rejection. If the fear of rejection stops you
dead in your tracks, remember that nobody likes it.
On the other hand, the more noes you get the more yeses you
will get. Don't let the fear of rejection prevent you from this
business. You can NOT get the yeses (the sales and the ones
who will help you) without the noes that go along with it.
The other day I could not even GIVE away a puppy. Today
he's out visiting one of my prospects. I got more noes than I
got yeses.
That will always be the case.

Do an excel sheet up with 100 no's when you get a "no" from someone, cross one off of your list.
It is really hard to get past the fear of rejection, I'm still struggling with it. But think of it this way... you KNOW that we have an absolutely amazing product line, you KNOW that these people will benefit from our products, you KNOW that the biz op is so awesome that it could help many of your friends/family get out of debt and live a better lifestyle. If you think of it in that way, then it should be easier to approach people. Remember, it's not about what they can do for you, it's what you can do for them. If you look desperate, "please buy from me"-- then they won't. If you have a strong desire to be able to help people, share what you know, they will pick up on that and see it for what it is.

I was aprehensive to approach my friends & aquaitances, too. I told my family when I was considering Arbonnne, & got their support then, but I wasn't sure how to approach my kid's moms.
I have to say that I have received an outstanding response! I usually start by asking what they are using now & if they have heard of Arbonne. Then I ask if they could try the line for a few days & let me know how they thought it compared to what they were currently using. I let them know that since I am just starting out, the info will really help me. I've only had one person tell me no, and she was just honest & told me that she'd used a line from Neiman's forever & wasn't interested in switching! I thanked her for her honesty & asked who else she knew that might want to try it. She gave me a few names. I told her that I would drop a sample pack by when I received them so she could try if she ever went on a trip or ran out, etc. I asked her to please call me & let me know how she thought it compared. She was receptive to that.
Not everyone has bought from me (altought most have), but everyone has been sort of excited to try it. They kind of view it as a treat! We have a long w/e & I left the men's & women's set with my son's teacher to try. She said she can hardly wait!
So I think you should just go for it! If they say no, don't take it personally & always try to get a referral when you pick up!
Let us know how it goes!!!

Thismayhelp 100 No’s
It’s a one word answer. The word NO. Some people really have a tough time accepting the fact that they are going to hear the word NO fairly often. They get discouraged and feel rejected because they look at the word NO as a negative.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The word NO simply means that nothing changes. Think about it. You approach your neighbor and ask her to be a hostess, she say’s NO- what changed? Is she still your neighbor? Yes. Did your income go up or down? No. Nothing changed. It can’t be negative; to be negative, things would have had to get worse, and they didn’t. Everything remained exactly the same.
On the other hand, suppose she said YES. Now, there are some positive changes. She received FREE products (a positive). You gain several more customers, potential hostesses and distributors (another positive) and you earn more money ( another positive).
You can see by this example that there are no negatives in our business. There are only positives and times when nothing happens.
When someone tells you NO, cross out one of the NO’s at the bottom of this sheet. Set yourself a goal of getting all 100 NO’s crossed out within the next few hours (no kidding) If you want to se your business explode with growth, take this exercise seriously.
Here is a hint that will make this easier. Ask someone to:

Become a consultant. If they say NO, cross out NO and ask them to

Become a hostess. If they say NO, cross out a second NO and ask them to

Give a customer referral. If they say NO again, you already have three NO’s

You will never be better at getting NO’s than you are right now. The more you do this, the tougher it becomes to get those 100 NO’s. You will find that a YES will creep in there every once in a while. Don’t let the occasional YES distract you from your primary goal of getting those 100 NO’s.
Imagine the look on your neighbors face when she tells you NO and you respond, "Gee, thanks, I’ve only got a few more NO’s to go and I am finished for the day. I was afraid you were going to say YES there for a minute" Don’s take this exercise lightly…. It works! Get those NO’s now while it is still so easy for you to do so. Don’s wait until it becomes difficult for people to tell you NO. That time will come soon enough.

I had the privilege of seeing & hearing our president, Rita Davenport this weekend at ACT & she said we know this is a great product and opportunity&we need to have the attitudewhen we offer it taht we are doing them a favor. For anyone that has not heard her, I have to let you know that she has an incredible sense of humor & a huge heart. She said if someone tells you they don't want the product, you want to say "Go ahead & wrinkle...I had one 2 years ago that did that and you should see her now!" Of course we would never say this but one of the points I took away (while laughing a lot) was that like so many things in life we cannot waste time trying to help someone who isn't ready to receive it.
I really hope theymake these recordings available for anyone who wasn't able to attend. Thespirit of Arbonne was showcased and was more than I ever thought possible. I am blown away!

I just wanted to put my 2 cents woth in and say that I agree wholeheartedly with the 100 no's. Our NVP just said last week at national meeting that the difference between a DM and a VP is a lot more no's!!! Good luck!!

This may be just me, but I find myself thinking a lot about what I want todo with my business, who I want to see, who I am going to call, what I am going to do... but not really doing so much. I think maybe it has to do with my fear of the no's. I need to stop thinking and start doing, but as easy as that may seem, it's still kind of hard. smileys/smiley24.gif

I'm the same way. Alot of thinking. The bad part is is that I have been talking to quite a few women, friends and strangers, with not much positive feedback. I have yet to have someone say they would like to try. I have to ask them if they would be interested in trying it. I have given out 10 sample packs. Of course, when I call them back to see how they like it, they have not used it yet or I leave a message and they never call back. I did two parties at my house in which $400 was sold. But not by me. My RVP did it for me. I have yet to hold a demonstration on my own. Out of the two parties, I only had one book. I have had one person so far try the RE9 set. She broke out so she is not interested in anything. Another woman is trying it out now, so hopefully this will be better. This has not been a good start for me to say the least. My husband was all gung-ho on this business 3 weeks ago when I started. Not so much now. I have invested $500 into this so far. He says no more until people start purchasing. It's tough.

10-10-2005, 01:46 PM
It is tough huh? What can we do? Our upline tells us that when we drop off the RE9 set for them to try, that even if they say they haven't tried it, to talk to them about the opportunity.I'm not a pushy person, so I kind of feel like I'm chickening out. But at the same time I feel like if I just "get over it", maybe I might start to see some results, like they say, what's the worst that could happen, they could say "no". In which case you really don't lose anything. Our RVP says that you have to sift through all of the no's to get to a yes. At least you got a booking! Do you have your demonstration planned yet? Don't let that one get away.. you may meet some other ladies intersted!

In businesses like ours, there are two things that do NOT work:
1. Throwing yourself a pity party.
2. Concentrating on results rather than activty.
Let's cheer up and get out there and do the activity (ask
people, ask people, ask people, ask people). When that
person does say yes, it makes all the noes melt like show.

Thanks Terry and Betty. Not trying to throw a pity party, just trying to get over the initial fear. Our RVP says you need to get out of your comfort zone! Nobody's going to do my business but me! Thanks again! By the way, have you picked up any of your puppies yet? How did it go? smileys/smiley2.gif

Sorry about my "pity party". It actually was one. However, I'm not giving up because I so believe in these products. Hopefully this demonstration on Sunday will be great! That would be a big boost for me and my business. I am not a pushy person either and when someone says "No" I take it as that and leave it alone. Iam still getting help on this demonstration from my sponsor, so I'm not quite going it alone yet. My "Why" is whatkeeps me going.

I get all excited and then that fear starts to creep in. Honestly, it is the fear that cripples us. We all know these are superior products. Keep your spirits up. You will hear no. Some of my even close friends are less than supportive. But when I think, "What if I can't do it" then I try to remember, "But what if I can?"
Hang in there!!

I also wanted to say that since ACT I feel much less "pushy" about the opportunity. Sitting there watching all those people go across the stage, knowing they had their white Mercedes, and listening to the women whose lives were changed by Arbonne, it all made me realize how fortunate I am to know and be involved in this now. I feel more like I have a true gift to share with people. It really is something that will change a life if used to the fullest and I am also going to concentrate on that more. I am not going to worry about "bothering people" and think more along the lines of sharing what is changing my life (through health and wealth). I think being able to read all these posts from you ladies just makes it hit home more. I am so glad to have found this site! I was wishing I had done more to hear what others were doing in their businesses at ACT but I swear I was so busy learning that I hardly had time to socialize and network. This is a great place! smileys/smiley1.gif

It is true that we are trying to help others by sharing what Arbonne can do for them. Our RVP says that she almost feels sad when someone brushes her off and tells them their not interested because she feels that they don't know what they just passed by.

That's exactly how I feel. I think that the people we approach are just thinking that all we want to do is make a buck. They're not getting it! I am so proud to be able to offer this to everyone. I feel very good about talking about it and telling people, but it's just not working that well yet. Arbonneis so different from everything else that is out there. I just hope that at leastI am planting seeds and when the word starts getting around about Arbonne's products that those doubters will "get it".

KatherineP, Thank you for sharing that! I just started last week and gave out two Re9 sets then and two more today. The first two folks loved the products (mostly) but are still trying to make up their minds what they want. My MIL tried it and loved it! She only wants to order one thing at a time due to the cost though but hopefully will share her experience with her friends. I shared with two other folks at work today and gave out two sets. When I think about how this can change people's lives I get out of my comfort zone and just call them! I haven't had anyone refuse yet. I used to sell MK a few yrs ago and this is so superior a product! I feel good offering it to people, not like I'm "selling" like I had to do before. Focus on how great the products are and not your fear! I have great plans can you tell?

Wow, this biz is really a roller coaster ride. I think when you "decide" and make your decision to do the biz 150% you will take it all the way. I also do a lot of talking, planning and no where near enough action. However, my friend and I are starting biz builder meetings - we have little support from our rvp, now NVP and are going for it. We have read, studied, gone to NTC, listened to everyone and their mother...now is the time to put it all in to practice and get our butt's to the next level. The people at NVP level are really no different to us - we just have to have a very strong why and our how will follow us. Lets have a great, productive, nation building week with this great company!!!!!!!!!

Remember that just because someone may not be able to purchase the whole set doesn't mean they can't start off with less. We offered a starter set special (Buy the Wash, day cream, night cream, get a free toner) for anyone not interested in becoming a consultant/wb. Two things happened. First,it was easy to "nudge" someone into becoming a wb (the whole set as a wb is only $173). Theother is that it got some started on the system and we know they will be back for more.

Good idea Teresa. It's all about perceived value!
I attended our Texas State Fair last week. Someone had a big booth set up with every item in the catalog displayed & lots of info out there. It was really quite impressive. She had a sign that offered a (I think I am remembering this correctly) 20% discount for items bought at the fair, 25% discount for items purchased at the fair & shipped to their home & 35% discount for those who signed up as consultants. It was really marketed pretty well. I emailed her to see how it was going last week, but no reply yet.
I also picked up a pup yesterday from my son's teacher who used it over the w/e. She said she was at a mall & saw a booth set up there. I didn't know we could do that.Edited by: arbonnebev

According to the policies and procedures manual, we are NOT allowed to display in mall carts or kiosks.
Maybe the booth she had set up was part of an event?
