After nearly 12 years in the industry, many spent studying the traits of leaders and many spent developing my own style of leadership, here are some common traits that leaders share.<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Leaders are readers - they spend time in self development.

Leaders are masters of recognition - don't worry about being recognized yourself. Spend your time recognizing and appreciating your team and your business will grow beyond your wildest dreams. You'll end up with plenty of recognition, too!

Leaders blaze a trail for others. This is done by STAYING IN ACTION and not falling into the management mode. You never need to manage your team. Provide tools and coaching and plenty of support, but do NOT manage! The speed of the leader determines the speed of the pack. If you want your team in the top ten of those sponsoring in your company, be there yourself!

Leaders are able to face and handle confrontations. You will always have those people in your organization who share different values and different ideas of how things should be done. There is not a right or wrong, necessarily. Develop your people skills and deal with challenges without RE-acting. Never discuss anyone in your organization with anyone else. Develop respect. Have integrity.

Leaders lead everyday and take others with them. It's no fun at the top. What is your plan to develop other leaders?

Share those plans with your team and see who is ready to step up to the plate!

Here's to all of those leaders everywhere!

Here are some common traits that leaders share. 1) Leaders are readers. 2) Leaders are masters of recognition. 3) Leaders blaze a trail for others. 4) Leaders are able to face and handle confrontations. 5) Leaders lead everyday and take others with them.

These traits certainly describe YOU, Jackie! My wife and I were commenting at the Mid-States Training in Kansas that "leadership" is one of the things you do best. Leadership isONE of the areas that we are looking to grow in as our business continues to challenge us in positive and exciting ways.

I am already reading more and trying to fit in some self-development listening where possible. We checked out some books-on-tape for the drive to Topeka and even though I'd read the book welistened torepeatedly in the past I got EVEN MORE out of it this time from the audio. I think it's making me a better Dad, too! BONUS!!!
