I thought I would share this information.

CMS lets clients edit their website that you have designed for them.
A wave of the future. You can develop websites in them. There is a debate over Mambo and Jamoola. Has anyone tried? Which is the best?
Or is there another one.?I keep hearing about Dropal as well.
I am investigating before I chose one to work in.

There is a demo site to try and a forum. This site lets you try before installing. GREAT This site includes opensource blogs, forums, photogallerys. This list is suppose to be the best in the world. At least that is what their site says.Great start for newbies and just starting out like myself. http://www.opensourcecms.com/index.php

A lot of CMS try to do too much and are pretty rigid. Customizing them is a pain in the butt and their general layout looks really tacky. :-)
I've been working with a very simple CMS application phpFreeNews. It's pretty simple, it's mainly just for news updates, you drop it right into the middle of your content.

I've used it for a few years now, and I'm comfortable enough with it that I've started customizing it to operate entire websites. It is extremely easy to set up templates which change the way information is displayed, and I can set it so that you can maintain and update the content of every page of a site easily. It's easy for novices to set up, but if you know anything about PHP and MySQL, you can really do some interesting things with it.

Wordpress is better than all of them, IMHO. If you can modify templates and such, it is easily configured as more of a "CMS" then simply a blogging application

Wordpress is nice, and once you dig into the templates, its easier to modify than with other programs. And the advantage is that there is a large development community and a LOT of nice and actually useful plug-ins.

What is the debate between Mambo and Joomla? Aren't they basically the same? I agree about using a blogging platform as a CMS - they are way easier to customize than mambo/joomla and way less confusing to admin. Edited by: chrlstoncharmed

Joomla and Mambo are essentially the same because they used to both mambo. And then the development team split and started up Joomla.

It really depends on what you want to do with your site. I've used Joomla and like it, but agree that it can be clunky to customize. However, there are plenty of pre-designed theme/templates out there.

But again what do you want to accomplish with the site?

I've heard a lot of good things about CMS Made Simple. I've played with it a little, but not enough to really know how to use it.

I want to design sites personal about 10 pages using Flash, I know the person cannot update Flash but the bloggers seem so defined and they do not look like full web sites.I assume you can expand the size or can you? I have seen some work in wordpress that has been impressive but none ofthe sites containedFlash or animation. Is Word Press limiting?
