My husband and I have come up with a bug repellant candle that is all natural. We have tested it out and it works quite well. My question is this, does this sound like something that would sell good? We have been able to add scents that would make them more appealing. We are unsure as to how we would be able to advertise them. What do you guys think would be a good way to get started?

Yes, it does repel mosquitos...we are just trying to figure out best way to advertise because we have the idea and product but no clue what to do next. We dont want to get the idea patented by a patenting co as they tend to steal ideas...thanks for the great ideas, pls keep em coming!

Citronella candles sell very well this time of year. Craft shows would be a good way to sell your candles, as well as online.
I'm not sure you could patent the product if you are using citronella, as many others do this as well. If you are using a certain formula then I would look into getting a patent.

We are using a different formula, with all natural products...no citronella. That is what sets it apart from other repelants. Any suggestions on how we should go about getting it patented? Most companies steal ideas so we dont want to get scammed out of the idea he came up with. Also, any suggestions on how to get the word out would be really appreciated. I know that its hard to market something few ppl know of so just wanting as much info as possible. Thanks again!

I would thing for a patent you would go thru an official govt website for a form or info.
You could get the word out in local area by giving some away for people to try - maybe like a "test market" in your area.
Also, see what mom & pop stores are in your area - they are usually good about letting local people sell in their stores. What about any gas stations near camping grounds, lakes or recreational areas. Privately owned stores that sell outdoor equipment, fishing bait, etc.
Build a website and learn how to market on the internet....what about selling on Ebay.
Actually, I would be interested in one or some - would you mind pming or emailing me some info - The mesquitos are soooooo bad here this year. Last night I was standing outside watching my husband finish a fence - I just happened to look down and there were about 10 mesquitos on each of my legs !!! They were eating me up!!

Does anyone know where I can find the tin containers that citronella candles are generally sold in? We plan on using those types of bins as well as regular candle holders
