Hi, ladies! I was just wondering what you do for the hostess if you get a recruit/qualified recruit at her Spa. I usually give the hostess a special gift, but I was wondering what others do. Do you do something different if you get a recruit vs a qualified recruit? Thanks!

I give her $10 additional in free product per recruit at her spa, since she is "missing out" on sales from that person. This is what I do regardless of whether the recruit qualifies or not, since that is ultimately up to the recruit, not the hostess. It only costs me $5 and my hostesses have seemed very content with that.

So are you saying that you DO NOT count the $99.00 or whatever the sign up price is toward the sales that the hostess gets to use toward earning her free products?

No, I do not count it toward the hostess's total sales, but I do give her $10 in free product per recruit (which is basically what she would earn if that person ordered $100 instead). Even with this month's signup price, I would still only give the hostess $10 in free product. Her signup check goes to BC, not to me, and I won't make any money off the recruit unless she orders more later (even with the Family & Friends package I only make a few dollars commission) so the $10 seems like a fair deal. I've never had my hostesses complain.

Debbie - I agree. I used to count the kit towards their party sales, but really, that is not your sale...and if they don't place any order after the BeautiCase, it really doesn't do anything for you unless they stay active. The commissions you get aren't usually equal to 10-20% of theirBeautiCase price (if it is more than $99 for the month). If they place a qualifying order, though, at least you make SOME money.
I am just torn. All my past spas I counted the recruit's BeautiCase purchase towards the party sales, and I also told them that would count as a booking. They also received a thank you gift. But then if they only got one additional booking, it really didn't help me.
I did a Spa this past weekend for a new group of ladies, and a guest purchased the BeautiCase AND a qualifying order. She was so excited, she started telling the Hostess that she had gotten a $500 order for only $225, and then the Hostess called me to close her party, saying that they had met their sales goals since the guest had ordered over $500 in products. Keep in mind she didn't have any bookings yet.
I really didn't know what to say! I always give a gift when the Hostess gets a recruit at her spa, and this was no exception. I had given her a Show of Hands Spa mini, which I told her was a $24 value. She was still upset, because she assumed the $500 counted towards her sales. I told her that had come directly from BeautiControl, and it counted as the recruits sales, not mine, but she still seemed upset. She was just like, "Oh. Well if that's how you do it..."
I didn't know what to say! I emailed her this morning and mentioned all the things she had gotten free so far at her party, and asked if there was anything else I could do to make her happy. Hope that helps at least.
I thought that was more than fair...especially since she did not get any additional bookings so far...hope she will at least get one so she will get the percentage of her sales! But really, there were only 6 people at the spa (and it was a dual-hostess party), so of the guests that were there, only 1 ordered. The other joined BeautiControl. The two hostesses ordered, but the sales were only about $150!
It has helped to see other ideas on this post. Maybe I will go ahead and give her credit for the BeautiCase purchase...but I don't think it is fair to give her credit for my new Consultant's qualifying order!

Marie, what a bummer! I wish you could help her see that, given her order totals without the recruit, if you credited her for the recruit AND the qualifying order it would actually COST you more for her spa than you actually MADE! I can understand how she might be confused, but there's a difference between orders at the spa (from you) and orders direct from BC, which is really what a qualifying order is. I really feel bad for you in this situation...wish I had some advice that could help!

I agree. That's a tough spot to be in, but I think you're handling it very well. Sometimes you can't make a person understand where you're coming from and that can be frustrating! There are also those who won't be pleased with anything....and maybe that's her. In which case, know that you tried your best, did everything you could and cut your losses. I think you're doing a GREAT job!!! Keep your chin up and go kick butt at your next spa! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley20.gif

I think sometimes the hostess only sees the $ value of sales, not the bookings on the hostess smart chart.
I usually give them some free product if they have the $500+ in sales but one or no bookings. At one of my last spas I had one booking (although she may cancel since she joined and may do her own spa), twojoined BC (incl the hostess) and over $500 in sales. I gave the hostess the $100 in free products and then afterwards I ended up getting another booking (a guest wanted her skincare at 50% off).
I thinkwe just need tobe sure that our gifts and free products don't cost you more than you make or your costs.
The great thing about BeautiControl is that we can create our own hostess plans.
You could also offer the hostess a discount on something that she liked that wasn't included in her kit. I agree though, she shouldn't get to count the F&F set in her sales since those count as your recruits sales, not hers.

This is a tough spot and the problem I see with this that has not been mentioned already is that if the hostess is unhappy then you get bad advertising because she is saying negative things to her friends. Try to sit down with her and explain that this is your business and your source of income. You cannot just be giving away free stuff or you will lose $$ and you cannot afford to stay in business. Maybe once she understands, then you can offer her something to keep her happy.

Thanks, everyone! So far, this may be a moot point anyway, because she has not gotten her second booking! I'm hoping we can get her party closed out today. I wonder if she decided she would rather have nothing then a small discount, and she just stopped trying to get a second booking? Oh well! Can't please everyone, I guess!
