View Full Version : SOH Leaking...

A recent post by IndySpagirl made me think to post this...

A lot of spa-ing women will report that SOH leaks from time to time.. I've learned the jar fits perfectly in a frosting container - you know those cardboard containers you would normally just throw out?

Gary Jones has also suggested to : Place the seal from a Ball Canning Jar lid on the Show of Hands container and THEN put the regular white lid over that. You should see an instant relief to your “leaking” problem! Yeah!

I've never had a client report the leaking - but with the constant use at spas - I think spa girls have reported this issue more..

Hope this helps!

Thank You SpaSister!!! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley32.gifI'm off to the grocery to buy these things!! I had gotten to the point of just opening a new jar at every spa and leaving it with my Hostess. Although they enjoy this...it was getting expensive for me.

Great tip! Thank you!

Maybe BC will get the hint and start putting a rubber seal in the caps.

I heard somewhere (here maybe?) that Gary is working on that. I always pack mine in 2 Ziploc bags, but they always leak.

The canning jar lids work OK, but you must wipe the top of the jar clean first to get all the salt off. I use the jar lids and ziplock bag.

I use the bags and lids too. They're trying to find a good method to seal the jars, but so far, have found that the product outlives the seal. Hopefully soon they'll perfect it!

the frosting can is perfect, because when ity leaks from the original container, it leaks into the frosting container and you just pour it back in...i think i also read awhile back that tupperware makes a container that SOH fits into...i want to say they name of the line is something like crisp and clean or cool...

I know this is an old post, but I also had this problem. I was really frustrated when it leaked the first time. I thought I was careful to make sure it was upright in my bag. My daughter got married the end of May and I hadn't taken it out of the bad I had brought it home in. The bag tipped over and wouldn't you know it, when I went to use it a couple days later, the liquid had leaked out and onto everything else that was in the bag. So now I have a jar with just the crystals and a tiny bit of liquid. I still use it tho - there seems to be enough liquid and moisturizer to make it work.

From now on tho, I'll make sure to use a plastic bag. (Guess now we all know why they come shipped in a bag. )

The canning jar lid works great! Mine actually tipped over and not a bit was leaked out.

I have used the Gladlock Press n Seal in the past, and it has worked wonders for me. I have also found out the hard way that the new LOS Salt Glow also leaks. So you might want to be careful with that one too.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

My black bag has been traveling a lot lately http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif!! And I have not had one leak! I make sure to wipe off the rim of the jar and the lid. I am using the ball jar lid and putting it all back in the plastic bag it came in from BC. SO FAR SO GOOD & No Leaks and this is wonderful!!

Should you lose all your oil from the SOH, I have heard that you can purchase the Herbal Serenity Body Oil (7685) and squirt that in with the crystals. Supposed to be the same stuff:)

i haven't tried the ball jar lid but long time ago to keep my SOH upright in my beauitcase, I used a small tin can like tea bags or cookies come in and placed it in the bottom of my beauticase and put a paper towel in the bottom of it and set the SOH jar in it. this was a temporary bandaid but I'm now going for the jar lid idea....thanks!

OK, so where do I go to get the seal from a Ball Canning Jar lid? Sorry, but I have no idea what that is or where to get it. Can anyone help?

I just ordered the "soup mug" from tupperware. It is 16oz and our SOH is only 10oz, but let me give it a shot and I will let you guys know how it works. I want to be able to keep it in it's original container for spas. I have been using the ball jar lid, but still get leakage http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley19.gif.

You can buy the lids at most grocery stores or places like Wal-Mart, just ask for the canning supplies.

I know, now that you mention it, mine came that way too and I had to use my own sandwich bags! Wonder what is up with that?

The last ones I ordered did not come in bags, either. What's up with that? Are they not using them anymore?
I think it was a quart size bag.

It was just so convenient to have that..I always gave it to clients that way and told them to keep it in there...it didn't always look professional, but better than spilling everywhere! maybe this means they are thinking of changing the seal...that would be awesome

Hello-

At BeautiU, the gal that conducted the class told us about a container that is available at Walmart in the travel items section.

The containeris about six inches long, with an oval shape. The plastic portion has some texture to it, so it does not slip out of your hand. The flip type cap comes in various colors. It retails for around a dollar. I made the trip to Walmart, and is was well worth it!

If you take your SOH and mix it well with the spatula, then use a funnel to pour it into the bottle, leaving about a half an inch of space - no mess! The container can stand on its own and the oil and salt will separate, as it does in the SOH container. With leaving a little room in the bottle, all you do is shake the bottle, flip the lid and dispense.

It works so well, that you tend to use it more often as it is much quicker than opening the SOH container and stirring. My husband, is more apt to use it as it is fast.

It works well for spa parties too. The gal suggested that you use the container to dispense at spas and when you empty a SOH container, you can place the empty container on the counter by the sink, so they can associate the product to the container. This way when you travel to spas, no chance of leaking product.

We personally travel quite a bit. I have bought a lot of these containers, because they do not leak. They travel very well and come highly recommended!

Hope this helps!

That is such a great idea!
Do you know the name brand for these containers?

I would love to know the name of these containers so I can find some...I like the idea of leaving an empty container of SOH for display, but I think I would use a brand new never opened one just because it might look nicer for them to see it full...

Wow! This tip is awesome, thanks. Both my sap and personal Instant Manicure leaked out it's oil.... I'm ordering the SOH oil rather than order a new Instant Manicure. Thanks! smileys/smiley2.gif

Hi Girls-

I just checked the bottle - no name. There was not a brand name that I can remember at the store either. I know that Goody has an identical bottle, but does not seal as well and would not recommend. You will know thatthe bottle is a Goody brand, as the plastic will be smooth.

Just go to the travel size section of the personal care items at Wal-Mart. They have basket racks, filled with items. Look for the empty bottles and they should be mixed in with various sizes. Remember to look for the oval shape and the texture to the plastic. With the texture on the plastic, you know that you have the correct one. By texture, the best I can describeisa suede likefeel to the plastic.

I know this sounds vague, but I never had been to Wal-Mart and was able to walk in and find them, with these directions! I tried to find a link on the Wal-Mart website, but could not find them listed. All that I know is, that they work so well you will love them!

Good luck.....let me know what you think, if you go and find/use them!

go to any walmart and ask where the canning jars are and the lids should be in that same isle. It is a little box and it says Ball Canning lids.

Great tips here. I just frosted a cake last weekend and tossed the
container. Boohoo!!!
I may try the canning jar lid and will for sure look at Walmart for the travel
container.
I guess the samples are going to be messy no matter what.

How do the SOH sample cards work?

Thanks for bumping!smileys/smiley1.gif

The main reason the oil leaks out is that the seal on the lid is "broken" by the salts. The salt gets stuck in the ridges of the container, creating a gap in the seal that the oil leaks out of. The BEST thing to do is always wipe off the outside of your SOH container with a paper towel and the inside of the lid with another paper towel. You may still get some leakage, but it will be much less. This is where the Ball lids or the frosting container are helpful. I still use the frosting container even though I wipe off the container, too.

Right now my booking incentive for scheduling in December is a Sugar Cookie SOH. So I plan to bring a newone, open it and use it and then leave it with the hostess.Hopefully they will like the extra gift and I don't have to worry about transportation.

Happy Spa-ing, Ladies.

So the hostess gets to keep the one you demo at her spa?
Just making sure I read that right..

Gr8skin--

Yep, she gets to keep it!! That is an extra hostess gift that I am doing to increase bookings for December only. I will tell the ladies at her spa that this is her gift for having it on the originally scheduled date and having 6 people there etc. If this helps me get more bookings for the month of Dec. I'll do just about anything. So far seems to be working.

Maybe they will come out with a squeeze tube somehow where you can depense the salt/oil mixture with no mess........it will be interesting what they will come up with-because I know that they are working on a solution.

or maybe a lid that stays shut and just has like a piece that snaps up to dispense...what I picture is like the spout for salt...or maybe something that pops up but we still have to reach into it...
