View Full Version : Question about Soy Candles

Are soy candles usually a creamier texture than paraffin candles? I have been testing some candles to add to my party line and they smell wonderful but I wasn't sure if it was normal for them to be so creamy.

It doesn't bother me at all but I thought it was interesting. Also, with paraffin candles you might see some shreds of hardened wax in the packaging but with the soy candles it the shreds of candle were more of a creamy texture. Is this normal?

Either way I love them and plan on going with this co.

HI!
Yes this is normal. Soy candles are creamier then Paraffin candles.

Yep- Soy candles are a lovely creamy texture. They are generally rather soft- which is why you must use a snug votive holder for votives, and you cannot make pillars.

Veggie blend candles can be part soy/ part other (Usually Palm wax and Beeswax I believe). These may be a bit firmer, and may have a pretty crystally finish.

Hope that helps!

Hi Irene,

Yes, they are! I love soy/plant/veggie candles! The burn so clean and hold some wonderful scents. I guess I switched over! smileys/smiley36.gif

I've been tinkering with my candles. I use soy wax and I've been filling jars, etc. I started making votives. To make soy wax suitable for votives, pillars, etc. you can add Stearic Acid to the melted wax (about 2 - 3 tablespoons per pound). The Stearic Acid makes the wax harder so it pops out of molds instead of clinging to them. Stearic acid comes from veggies and does seem to affect the fragrance or burn time (if anything, it may increase burn time). Soy wax burns so much cleaner than parrafin. I love it!

The best thing about soy candles is if you spill or drip wax on your
table or counter it wipes right up with a sponge and it doesn't make a
sticky mess on your carpet. Fantastic!

The way I got involved with soy candles, I have a relative that has asthma and loves candles. So I started doing research on a safer, cleaner burning candle and found soy! There are many reasons to switch to soy candles,, they burn cleaner, they are bio-degradeable, you can clean up with warm soapy water if spilled and they contain no carcinogenics. Paraffin candles contain 11 documented toxins, 2 are carcinogenic.

I carry over 30 fragrances and adding Carolina Herrera for Men, Acqua Di Gio by Giorgio Armani and Rapture by Victoria Secret's.smileys/smiley1.gif
