View Full Version : Getting in shape for success!

It occurred to me today that I am very much out of shape! Physically that is and I wondered how much relationship there is to physical condition and mental focus. What do you think and do you exercise regularly and does it make a difference in your business? Is physical conditioning a big part of your recipe for success?

So I got out my bike and rode a couple of miles. Got back with jello legs and managed to do a hundred ab crunches with a funny looking thing that wife uses sometimes and then could only muster twenty push-ups. Sad to say I am badly out of shape! The digital scale says 206 smileys/smiley3.gif!!! I had no idea!!!

Not intending to sound racially discriminating but they used to call me the fastest white boy in the state smileys/smiley36.gif Bet I would croak to run a hundred meters now! So I think getting back in shape will help me in all walks of life. What say you ladies? smileys/smiley4.gif

I say Good on ya' Charlie. My husband is out of shape too and just bought a bicycle to ride to work since we only live 3 miles from his job but we live in the Bay Area and it 3miles uphill and we live in the middle of the hill so it is quite tough. He worked up to it and the first night only made it 5 houses up the hill. Now he can actually make it to work although he is WORKING to get there.

I know that I feel better mentally when I have time to treadmill in the mornings or evenings. Helps me sleep too!

Hey Charlie!
So true!

We've been very much into health for a long time. The reason I joined MB was initially b/c of the no black stuff, clean burning healthier reasons.

Weexercise, eat healthy food anddrink healthy vitamin/mineral shakes and take supplementseveryday.

I personally wouldn't go a day without them!

Darlene,

You might live near Kira? She's in Northern Cali. Where in the Bay area are you? I spend a lot of time there when I can, like the Berkeley Hills, Marin County, Lake Tahoe. That's my favorite area n the US!!

Charlie, good for you! No time like the present to get in better shape, for all of us.

After my hubby suffered a heart attack last year at the young age of 47, we have totally changed our diet(and the kids, which they weren't real thrilled about, lol)we are doing some exercising, which we didn't really do before, and I have to tell you it really does change the way you feel on a daily basis. Knowing that you are physically working to help yourself feel better helps you in all aspects of your life, or it has us anyway. Obviously when anyone has a health scare in their life that changes your outlook on life, that's for sure, but at the same time, even the diet and exercise has really made an overall change for us!

I wish you luck and I hope all good things happen in your life!

Tammy

Hey Charlie,
I just started an exercise program....I'm learning to run. I found a booklet by Hal Higdon (from Runner's World Magazine). By following his plan, I should be able to run a 5k by the end of Sept!! I'm so excited!!!

You should visit us down in the Fitness/Weight Loss Support folder. We have a monthly contest, plus a ten day walk challenge. I'm also in the Women Challenge - it's a National Event.

Hey Charlie...

I was so happy to see this post. This has been the focus in my household for the past few weeks...I truely believe that the physical is very closely related to the mental/emotional....I know that my being overweight and out of shape is one of the main factors in the negatives in my life...It took me a long time to get the whole positive attitude thing( Love The Secret)

NowI am focusing on the physical health...

I have suffered from depression alot in my past. I have never had very good self esteem, and I never put myself first.. I can definitely tell you that since I have started with MB... ALL that has changed !! I am all about getting my self healthier..In mind, body, and spirit...Once I started believing that I deserved better, it became alot easier to do better overall( Exercise, Better with my biz, my family, etc...)

I am cheering you on Charlie...Now I am off to my RUN!!...Well maybe jog!!

I absolutely believe everything goes hand in hand, my dears. Remember the five areas of life?

1. Physical
2. Mental
3. Spiritual
4. Relationships
5. Financial

The goal is to balance all five. If you are out of whack in one area, more than likely it's going to affect the other four.

Personally, when I feel I am in great physical shape, my head and heart are courageous, and my business takes flight.

let me know when anyone wants to go for a run. :O) (Charlie, where in the Bay are you? I'm from Concord!)

Great revelation Charlie!! You'll definately benefit from it-- physically and mentally!!

For me, I hate to workout! But after I've froced myself to do it I feel so great that I love working out! forum_images/post_button_smiley.gif
I try to go to the gym 2 - 3 times a week. I have two friends that I take Pilates and Toning classes with and knowing that they are going to be there makes it easier to get up and get going!

</font>I have to tell you this because I am so proud of myself for accomplishing it.smileys/smiley9.gif... This past weekend DH and I rode our bikes on the 11 mile Cades Cove Loop in the Smokey Mtns. It was soooo much fun! We did have to walk up a couple of the hills, but DH at one point says to me, 'Who would have thought it? We have been married 20 years and still are healthy enough to spend our Anniversary riding mountain bikes!'</font>smileys/smiley36.gif

The endorphins you get from exercising will actually help you! I think I tend to have more energy on the days I exercise than days like today, when I don't and I'm dragging!

One more thing, my class instructor told me that most people give up after 3 - 4 weeks and it takes a good 6 weeks to get into the habit and see real results! So don't give up too soon! Set your sites for at least 6 weeks and then you will hopefully want to keep it up!
