I am absolutely clueless to all of this...but I am interested in pursuing a side job of photographing weddings as back up to their professional...I would like information on how I could set up my own site....I am looking for a free site hopefully! Thanks!

I would recommend you find a hosting package and go with that instead of a free site. All free sites have ads on them or pop-ups and many people automatically leave the site because of that. Go with your own hosting account and domain name that way you are in control of what appears on your site.

I second the above recommendation. From my experience, photography website users are a different breed. All website users have certain expectations, but when promoting photography, the expectations seem to be higher in terms of design andinteractive options.

There are many good hosting businesses out there that offer photo galleries and website building programs that are as easy to use as this forum.

You definitely want a company that has a gallery option. And remember to watermark your photographs before you upload them to the web.

You definitely want a website that looks great- people expect their photographers to have a good design sense! I would steer clear of the free websites. It just annoys people to have to deal with popups and ads.
I signed up for a website through one of the earn cash websites, and got it free for 6 months by doing it that way. You can find out how I did that at this Squidoo lens:
How to build an online business when you've got no shoestring (http://www.squidoo.com/noshoestring/)

Best wishes on your new endeavor!

I just saw your lens and I must say you've done an exceptional job. smileys/smiley20.gif I am new to all this myself, but like to see what others have done on Squidoo as well. Have you thought about HubPages (http://hubpages.com/_106eq6om5qmyx/hub/My_Liberty_Depends_on_Me) for your promotions? It might be worth checking out especially helpful in creating search engine ranking. Best of lucksmileys/smiley1.gif

There are tons of options out there from free to thousands. You really need to do your homework as to what your wants and needs are and what people can provide you.

As I am sure you know, people will sell you almost anything on the web and won't support what they have sold you. Your best defence is know what you want and need.

Good luck with it.

Cheers,
Sparky

You could give www. (http://www.pages.google.com)pages.google.com (http://www.pages.google.com) a try. It is really simple to use and might be a good place for you to start.</span></font>
