View Full Version : selling jewelry on e-bay

It really is too late for me to be asking this since I already listed it, but any idea on how hard it is to sell jewelry on e-bay?

I listed a diamond engagement ring. I started the price at 20% of the appraisal value so it is pretty reasonable.

I'm just wondering if there is a chance it will sell. It seemed like similar items had bids on them and that's what I based me selling it on e-bay off of!

Oh,and I know I asked this before a long time ago, but I never ended up listing it. Do wedding dresses sell on e-bayor am I better off trying to bring it to a consignment shopor something like that?

I know, it sounds like I'vegotten divorced....wedding ring....wedding dress....but no. Just getting rid of things I have had sitting around...all of which happen to be wedding related! : )

Could you post a link to your ring so I could have a look and give some pointers?

Here is the link. It's not something that I HAVE To sell, just was hoping to be able to. If it doesn't go this time, I'm not relisting and I'll probably just hang on to it. So it's not crucial that I sell it...I appreciate any comments though, because in the future I was thinking of selling some more jewelry that I have lying around! Jewelry (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=020&sspagename=STRK%3AME SE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=300108260531&rd=1&rd=1) listing. Thanks!

The description is great...very detailed...if I had to find fault, it would be the picture...maybe it's just me, but the picture seems dark and makes the ring look cheap...

Just my $.02 (prolly only worth $.005)http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif

Oh, and I meant to add that I sold my wedding dress on eBay and got more than I paid for it : ))

Sold my bouquet on there to (silk)...

Thanks,
Deb

Thanks for the input Deb. It was really, really hard to get a good picture of the ring that was clear enough and close enough to show the detail unfortunately. You are right though, I thought the same thing. The picture doesn't do it justice but I didn't know what else to do!

Thanks for the input on the wedding dress too! I didn't know if it would be worth it posting it on e-bay, but I have no idea how to get rid of it otherwise. I'm not a very sentimental person when it comes to those things....it's just a dress and I don't need it hanging in my closet for the next 50 years!!!

I'm the opposite, I get sentimental about those kind if things.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

twest78 the only fault I see in your listing is the picture. I'm sure it is far prettier in person than the picture leads you to believe.Edited by: sojourn_fan

The only time I have ever received good prices for jewelry on eBay is when I also post an appraisal. Otherwise, people are too sceptical.

it depends, I have seen some jewelry go for lots and other times: $5.00. ;(

I guess it just happens to be who is looking and what they need.
