I finally got all my supplies and I started last night with some testing candles. I am testing for wicks and also FO percentage.

Other than my burn on my hand, I had a ton of fun. How long do you let yours cure before you start your test burns? Can you really wait 1-2 weeks, lol?

My kitchen smells wonderful! I am using the palm wax and it is just stunning! They look great - no pits or marks. I had one wick shift on me, but I caught it in time.

WOW, that sounds nice, I want to start making candles but don't think I have the patience, but I do love the way "homeade" candles look (smooth and creamy), although I have never burned one made in a home. I might try making some i nthe future, I just don't know if mine will add up, KWIM? I am sure yours look and smell nice!

Yay! Congradulations!!
It is very addicting. I hope your hand is ok though!!

What fragrances have you chosen to start off with?

My hand is fine - only a tiny blister and doesn't even hurt anymore. My husband said that I need adult supervision from now on, lol!

I have a ton of fragrances to test, but I only did one fragrance on Saturday - Amish Harvist from Peak. I heard it was a good one, and man, do I ever love it!! Cold throw is strong even in the one ounce/lbtest. I went up to 1.5, but it doesn't need it at all. That is definately going to be a keeper.

I kinda went nuts and bought a ton of samplers fragrances just to check out. I bought fromPeaks,Millcreek, Bittercreek, and a couple off ebay (note to self not to buy from ebay, can hardly smell them in the bottle). My favorites are from Peak for the most part. I have acouple favorites from Millcreek, too.

What is your favorite FO?

To test the other scents, I am just going to make some melts, so I don't waste jars. I only used jars on Sat to test the wick size.

Out of the fragrances I've tried, I LOVE the fuzzy navel but can't burn it often or it starts to bother me lol. I love the smell of peaches and I also love the alcholic drink.

However, Coconut is by far my favorite. It's a nice toasted coconut smell. Totally yummy.

I get my fragrances from two companies; Canwax and Village Craft & Candle.

I'm trying out some new fragrances very soon. I'm excited. One is Strawberry Swirl. It's suppose to smell like strawberries and cream. *drools*

LOL too funny.....yes it is fun isn't it? It's even more fun when you can "bow out" of the candle making process when it becomes "work".smileys/smiley36.gif Oh I'm so kidding - my mom still absolutely loves pouring which is a good thing.smileys/smiley2.gif

Other than my burn on my hand, I
had a ton of fun. How long do you let yours cure before you start your
test burns? Can you really wait 1-2 weeks, lol?

We always let them cure at least 2 days if not longer. Usually only orders we ship as soon as they are cooled completely (most of the time the day after they are poured), since shipping time lets them cure before they reach the hands of the customer. When my mom brings over candles for me, I let them cure for at least another day or two before I light them (as hard as that is!). Melts on the other hand I toss right in half the time.

Congrats!! Glad to hear your hand is doing well. Welcome to the candlemaking addicts club. LOL. http://wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif Yep, I always wait about two weeks as hard as it is!! At least with jars, I never really wait very long with the melts though! Good luck and have fun!!

Thank you!
Do you all find it is better to limit the number of scents you offer? I want to only start out with about 20, but I am having trouble narrowing it down. Edited by: lovethiscandle

I have a little less than 20 fragrances right now. I'm discontinuing some as they aren't selling. I have a list of ones I'd like to add and I try to add at least one new one per month but will probably stop at around 30.

Yes you want to limit in the beginning...we have 25 plus several holiday scents. I am working on two more, but won't discontinue anything. Try to create scents that cover different times of the year.

Hey there! Candlemaking is Fun, Rewarding, and yes... it is addicting! LoL!
Just thought I'd mention a great company that I get my candle making supplies and bath & body supplies from in case anyone is interested. This company to me is by far the best when it comes to quality and helpful resources. They also have a great message board as well! The website is: www.candlesupply.com (http://www.candlesupply.com) or you can type in www.bittercreek.com (http://www.bittercreek.com) they have two supply stores in two different states.
HTH and Welcome to the world of Candlemaking!

I would start out by limiting scents. It is too hard to test too many at once. Once again welcome and good luck!!
