recruiting sales post here (forum_posts.asp?TID=343069)
and i am wondering how this works? yo get $400 i sales for example, then the hostes sign up fo rth ekit, and you put a qualifying order for her.BUT does she know that you are doing that? or is this something you do on your own? this is not to offend anyone here, i just want to know how this works.
if the hostess wants the kit and the extra product, then you tell her you will use your sales profit if she signs up that night/?????smileys/smiley5.gif

Pea,
Here is what I would do in this situation.
Assuming the hostess told me she wanted to join after the spa was over and all friends had gone, I would tellher that I will give her the sales from the spa but she has to use it toward an order. I would have already given out the products I had on hand that her friends ordered, so I would keep my 50% of those products. If I didn't have a product on hand, I would have her order that productas part ofherorder. Then,I would see how much she has left to spend towards a qualifying order. I would tell her about the Friends and Family set. From there if she still had money left from sales, I would tell her that she can either use it toward the consultant kit or order more product for herself.
I always encourage thehostess(now recruit)to place the order on their own within 48 hours. If she is uncomfortable with it, then I will get together with her (usually the next daybecause it gives me time to cash checks to give back to her) and have her do it while I am helping her.
Yes, with this scenario, I did loose my sales profit from the Spa, but Iwill get a commission from the qualifying order.
If the hostess tells me before her Spa, then I would talk to her about using the sales from the Spa. If she agreed, then I would have all purchases be made out to her (and not use my inventory) and she would place the order as a qualifying order.
Hope this answers your question.
Kim

Space-Pea, I have to admit that I don't really understand your question. That may be why few are responding.
But if I had a hostess who wanted to become a consultant and hold her own Spa Escapes, I would help her book one with one of her guests. I would also have her order from herself rather than me since she will get 55% off. However, if the hostess was on the fence, and it was April 30th and I needed onemore consultant to qualify for the trip to South Beach, I would probably count that Spa as hersif that is what it would take to get her to placea $500(retail value) inventory order rightaway.A bettermethod of assisting a prospect is to show her how to sell 9-10 Show Of Hands Instant Manicures so that she canpay forher $500 order that way. (I sold 4 at my pediatrician's office just by dropping off a demo and picking it upa fewdays later). The reason why this is better is because she now has 9-10 satisfied clients who she can go back to and book a spa with. I apologize - I'm quoting US dollars and I think I recall that you are in Canada.

I have done this in the past. When I did it, I would ask a new recruit if they didn't want their 55% off discount, would they mind if I used it because even I don't get that kind of savings and I wouldn't want the opportunity to go to waste. They all said yes, go ahead. I would ship it to my house and use the product for my own inventory.
I figured out, though, that it wasmore important to build my team than to get them qualified. I was spending a lot of my own money qualifying them. Even using the sales of the spa that night to use as a qualifying order took profits out of my pocket. Yes, 55% off is a good deal, but I was buying a lot of inventory through them andmy own personal sales were low, therefore,I didn't make much, if any, commission. You can't do it for everyone,so I don't do it for anyone anymore.
I got into this business to make money, not to earn the prizes. Sometimes they're nice, though, and if a new recruit qualifies, awesome. But if they don't want to spend another $225, I really encourage use of the $100 for $45 coupon.

hi space pea -
In addition to what the others said- I think it all depends on what your goals are as well as what your month is looking like - as Elizabeth said above - if you just need one more qualified recruit - you might forego the retail sales to gain an all expense-paid trip. Also, you might benefit from these numbers PHENOMENALLY on the commission side depending on your career level. So there is often some benefit to think more long term than short term.
But truly the best thing to do - is to keep the retail sales and have the hostess "qualify herself" and by that I mean - encourage her to get other outside orders, stock her present closet, give the discount to others who might not have been able to make the spa..... This way - she is getting a taste of how easy it is to sell and make a profit.
This is the best case scenario of course - but it has happened for me this way - Especially when the hostess herself isnt the one signing up.

Here's an example...not a true story exactly...My hostess Darlene has a spa. the spa has $400 in sales retail. Darlene signs up. I need her qualified but she doesn't take the 55% deal. I tell her that I am going to place her spa's orders under her name since she is now a consultant. That way the products will go straight to her for her to deliver to her guests. the qualifying order is $500 retail, so I have to order an additional $200 retail which is what they get in free product. Hope that answers your question. I never tell someone that I am "qualifying" them. Most new people don't really understand that and being in the business 10 minutes at the spa is not the time to lay on something as complicated as "qualification."
And I have to say this...but one thing I was told is that when doing that, make sure you are turning over party sales and not using their discount to place orders for yourself in an effort to get people qualified...in other words placing your own inventory orders under your new recruit just to get their discount. People have gotten in hot water with BC for doing that. That is not considered best practice. Just in case anyone should ever question or ask, you want to be sure they are qualifying themself with 1. outside orders 2. party sales or 3. out of their own pocket...and by the way...many people will qualify out of their own pockets. I have had recruits qualify out of pocket both with agreement and/or at training.
If you can afford to qualify with party sales, its ok. Me personally, I need my party sales so I have them get outside orders andlet them know that if they get 5 order of $45 or more, they will get free product to usefor themself, for demo, orto sell rightaway attheir first spa escape or open house.
One last thing...don't forget that if someone doesn't qualify on the spot, you still have 90 days to get the qualified. If they are doing spas, they will qualify themself during that 90 days.

My director does something similar, but she lists it as part of her hostess rewards. If the hostess signs up and her spa sales reach $250, she lists that the hostess gets $250 in free products. She lets the hostess choose her $250 free, and she orders the spa sales under the hostess/new consultant's number. If the spa is only $250, she is turning her profit over to the hostess, but if it is over $250, she fills the extraorders herself and makes profit only on the portion over $250.Edited by: bcspa_girl
