Hi all,

I am looking for really cheap shipping boxes to order. I looked at
walmart and most of them here were .70 and up. That kind of defeats the
purpose when you have to pay so much for boxes.

Does anyone know of a cheap place? Thanks.

I have went to several different places around here and all of them seem to be extremely high! For me, it is best to order the Priority Mail boxes straight from the usps, shipping is a tad higher sometimes, but if I had to add in the cost of the box, it would be the same! And the flat rate boxes--gotta love them! They save me big time money every time I use them!

oh, in case you didn't know...Priority Boxes are free..you have to order them in lots of 25 (I think), but it is easy to go through 25!

Kris

I do love the free priority boxes. Just wish they had bigger ones!

Hi,

That's what I am currently using...... But it seems like a lot of
people don't want to purchase an auction if the shipping is high. It's
almost like a lose, lose situation.

That's the truth! I've been asked several times to send it Parcel Post, instead of Priority to save the buyer money and I just want to tell them....okay, well I'll charge you Parcel Post shipping, plus the cost of a new box, plus the cost of the gas it takes me to go get the new box--which is still a deal for you cause I am not charging for the styrofoam I use (which does cost me) or my time!

Of course I never really say that. My shipping is Priority unless otherwise stated, to save money I can combine multiple auction wins into a flat rate box.

Have you ever looked at buying boxes from someone on ebay? I know a lot of people sell shipping supplies there and it does (from what I have looked at) seem to be cheaper than anything around here. Bubblewrap is a lot cheaper from sellers on ebay.

Kris

I will look into it.

You are completely right. By the time you pay for the box, etc, it's
more than the priority mail for the sellers. But for the buyers, yeah
it would be cheaper for them. But as sellers we have to add this stuff
in or we are not going to make an income.

By the time I have paid the listing fee, final value fee, paypal fees,
etc, it's really starting to seem like I am not making any money.
People don't want to buy it if the listing price is where it should be,
than they don't want to buy it when you list the correct cost for
shipping.

try www.argrov.com

They have tons of sizes and decent prices. The best part is that you can specify the sizes you need, that way you save on packing material by using the right size box

I guess I am pretty lucky. My father works in a shipping and receiving job at a hospital. They get lots of boxes, all sizes, and he is able to give me whatever I want for free. I just cover up the old label. And that is good considering what I sell on Ebay usually goes for $10 or less.

what if you got the priority</font> boxes for free then turned them inside out and retapped them together... can we do that?

I"m interested in peoples' opinions on this. I wish I could turn them inside out! But I don't think I will. I heard someone say once that if they received a box like that, they wouldn't buy from that seller again. They said, "If a seller is dishonest enough to abuse the free boxes, they are probably dishonest in other ways, and I don't want to buy from them."

I just thought of this myself, as I was reading this post. Why not get the priority boxes and then use the brown kraft paper (or paper bags if you want to go really cheap!) to wrap them? I always wrap my boxes in kraft paper, as they are normally used boxes (cereal, food, etc) and it just looks terrible going out that way. HTH.

Can we even get more illegal?

The boxes are free for a reason. The postage is not negotiable. That's attempting to cheat the PO big time.

I wouldn't advise it.

sometimes just boxes like high c boxes are good to turn inside out too

You really don't have to turn them inside out. Just black out any upc codes. As long as your shipping label is obvious, the PO doesn't care how ugly the box is. Nor does UPS. In fact, I think they prefer us to NOT wrap our boxes.

I like to buy boxes, especially for my Amazon marketplace
listings...they look much more professional than reusing an old
box...but for my ebay stuff I use whatever I can find.

I don't know about now....but when I started getting the Priority Boxes in bulk (like 5-6 years ago), I had to sign a waiver saying that I would only use the boxes for Priority Mail use through USPS, blah, blah , blah..........

And messing with the mail, isn't that like a Federal offense, I just don't think I would try it. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif

Oh, and you can't put two Flat Rate boxes together to make a large one either.http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley17.gifI've never tried, but I like to joke with the people at the PO about it.

Alot of the newer priority mail packaging has priority mail imprinted on the other side so you can't turn them over. Now I received a package abouta week ago, in one of the priority mail shoe boxes. they sent it parcel post and marked out w/a black marker all the Priority Mail wording. I couldn't believe it. If I would have mailed something like that they would have sent it back or charged the receipient the difference

I tried covering a flat rate box with paper once. The reaction I got was not pretty. Still can't show my face in that post office. I was sick and desperate. I strongly recomend you not try this.

Ladies, I spend a little time each week cruising my neighborhood just before trash pickup, and get tons of nice boxes....and I also look for boxes when I am out walking my dog. I also look at our local high school dumpster....
and when someone moves into our neighborhood, I pick up all the moving boxes. I have a garage filled with boxes and bags of peanuts, and I am happy to be recycling!
I do buy book boxes from uline.com, and they are very reasonable.
I also do use the USPS Priority free boxes, labels.

I use a little bit of everything. I get the free boxes from USPS, hit Walmart on their stocking days (Monday) &amp; Price Chopper (Sunday) plus I go to my recycling center Sunday nights for the boxes, peanuts, styrofoam, etc. If the box is too garbled, I wrap it with Kraft paper, if not, then I just marker out all UPC codes so that it doesn't mess up the scanners at the post office.
Just my 2 cents! http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
