All, I know I have seen various posts on this strategy, but I have a few questions and figured I would give it a post all its own http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif. I am seriously considering the investment in product and giving this a try, but I would love to know from those who are doing this 1) how many spas do you book per office when you leave your basket 2) what % of product "walks away" 3) how do you handle this or do you just let it slide 4)if you actually get orders from the office, what would you say your average retail $ amount is? I know this will depend on the size of the office, but an idea would help http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif.
I currently work full time and am unable to tap into the "work spas" or "school spas" and this sounds like a fantastic alternative. I have found some very helpful forms on www.shellywardunit.com (http://www.shellywardunit.com) but would welcome any insight to the above questions!!!
TIA!

I'm bumping this one because I would love an answer to the "how much walks away" question. Also, how do you go into the office; what do you say?

I would love to know the answers too from people who've tried this. I know that there were lots of posts that were very helpful but most people were just starting out with the basket so I'd love to hear how it went.
The Shelley Ward unit website link that Kari has above is great, thanks! There's a ton of good forms and info.
I was going to try this too if I don't have success calling companies for spas. I'm going to attempt to approach some yoga studios in my area...it's way outside of my comfort zone but hopefully I'll be successful.

Sorry guys http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley9.gif, wanted to move this one back up as I think I heard from one of you that the person that's doing these traveling spa baskets was on vacation last week. So I hope she sees this. We need your help.

Hi Ladies,
I'm the one who's been posting on the thread for pampering new moms. I was unexpectedly calledout of townlast week with very limited access to the Internet. I've been caring for my mentally-ill mother-in-law...she has had a major emotional breakdown, and her body isn't far behind right now. She's only 64 years old, but she looks and acts at least 20 years older. It's been a very trying time, especially withboth of my boys (1 year and almost 4 years) to care for too!
I don't have much time tonight to post, but I promise lengthier answers to some of the questions on this MB that I can help with.
To give brief anwers to your questions, Kari...
1. How many spas do I book from each office? That varies so much, of course, depending on how many employees there are, howwell I know (or don't know) employees there, how many women vs men are inthe office...so many variables! On average, though, I get 1 to 2 bookings. Ifigure it's a pretty good payoff...my time investment is pretty minimal in my first contact with the office, dropping off and explaining the basket, picking up the basket and delivering orders and follow-up...if it's right here in my community, I'm usually spending no more than 1 hour totalfor thethings I just mentioned. Some bookings are for in-home...others lead to Spa @Work.
2. I am either incredibly naive or have just had good experiences...I've only had 1 item walk away in the year I've been doing the Traveling Spa Basket. It was at a bank...the person who took the product ended upgetting fired just two weeks later for embezzling, so she alreadyhad issues with theft. Nothing else has ever walked away. I guess I dogood job of explaining how the basket works, and I have a laminated letter in the basket that explains how to use it and that the basket "has another appointment to relax and delight another lucky group in just 2 days." People try things, but, other than the situation I just mentioned, nothing else has been stolen from the basket.
3. How did I handle the theft? I mentioned the missing item to the supervisor. She took it from there and ended up returning the missing product after the employee was let go.
4. Average sale/office? Gosh, that too varies...my lowest was a $10 mascara sale (but, as you'll see on the other thread I mentioned above, that ended up leading to a heapo' business later)...my largest was $700, I think (just off the top of my head). The $700 was at a HUGEmedical insurance workplace here in my town...I ended up with 40 orders there. I'm actually supposed to be going back there to do a Spa @ Work program beginning in June, running one day a week for 6 weeks. This will be part of their corporate wellness program, so they want every employee to have a chance over the course of the 6 weeks.
If I had to generalize, however, most of the offices result in 1 to 2 spas with 1 potential new consultant and about $150 to $200 in sales. There will always be duds and there will always be the "dream offices" where things there are through the roof...overall, I figure my results are worth my time and product investment. I also have found this to be a great way to spread the word about my biz in a non-traditional way without taking tons of time away from my family. Yes, I deliver the baskets during the workday, but I have found a way to do it that it SO easy, allows me to bring my children and I still look professional.I always bring a ride-along...another adult who can stay in my minivan with my boys and entertain them in the 5 minutes or so that it takes for me to deliver and explain the basket. Sometimes it's my aunt (who's not able to work outside the home)...sometimes it's my sister....sometimes it's even my next-door neighbor. And once school is out, my neighbor girls have offered to ride along with me whenever I need help. So, for a stay-at-home mom like me who doesn't have time to attend tons of networking and business events in the community and meet many women (and men) in the workplace, the Traveling Spa Basket has opened up so many doors for me!!
Oh, and I noticed that you work full-time, Kari? This can still work, depending on what your work hours are, how long your lunchbreak is, what your current contacts are in workplaces (hint, hint...you could have them do the actual delivery and pickup)...just think about any way you can utilize what you have!
If you have any other questions, please feel free to post them, and I'll post my response as I have access. I'm hoping to be home again next week, so my access should be back to normal again.
Take care all!
Melissa

Please remember not to forget about yourself in all this! I know how easy it can be to do this when you have a crisis AND a family to look after. Take time for you...even if it's just 5 minutes with some eye pads on!

Melissa,
Thank you so very much for sharing your information. You have such a servant's heart! I'm not sure if you followed the other thread a week or so ago titled "Traveling Spa Basket", but you have opened so many doors for all of us, or should I say your basket idea http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif. Right now, my basket is visiting my daughter's elementary school.
Last night at our unit meeting, our director asked me to bring and talk about my traveling spa basket. Everyone was so excited! Of course, I gave credit to you and this wonderful board! So we may have some new blood joining us this week.
It's a hit!, no it's a home run!!!!!

Ok, I'm looking for the other thread on the traveling spa basket. If anyone can find it would you mind bumping it for me? I REALLY need to get one going and I don't have a clue what to put in it or what to say. I'm also curious as to the response because I am scared of opening all this new product for no sales!!! I have to come up with $800 in the next two weeks NO EXAGGERATION and I am trying to prove to myself I can do it or I don't get to go to Celebration :( I have 2 girls that are going and I don't want to even imagine what would happen if I couldn't go. I have to come up with everything but registration PLUS $275 for the rest of my DIQ order and then $300 to pay a bill at home.
I can do this.............right? ;)

Hi Karol,
Just in caseyou haven't found the Traveling Spa Basket on Alyssa's new freeweb site, I'll send it to you.
Thank you for the kind words on my mother-in-law. After 4-1/2 years of caring for her, we lost her to a heart attack last week, on July 24th. It was completely unexpected, as she was only 64, but she had heart disease and a previous heart attack (which we didn't know about until the Medical Examiner told us after her passing). I know she was in a lot of pain, both mentally and physically, and death was what she was praying for, but I'm still sad to lose her. Despite the work and burden almost non-stop for these past 4-1/2 years, I still consider it an honor and a privilege to have been able to serve her in her times of need.
Your e-mail is on the way, Karol!
Blessings,
Melissa
