I know I have seen the question posted but there wasn't any response. I am doing a fundraiser with my church in October. I think it will be really big and have offerred to give all my profit to one of our charities. Do you turn around and write a check to them and then deduct it on your taxes?Any other ideas?

I think the safest route would be to sign up the head of the church as a consultant, then everything goes under their number, but you still get the volume. Then you don't have to worry about keeping their orders seperate from your regular business.

ok the problem i see with signing the head of say the church of is that they then are gonna be responsible for some taxes unless extremely successful fundraiser which we all hope it to be so thebn there would be lots of taxes. we have thought maybe the best way is to just make up receipts for evcery order. of course that wont work if you are doing all orders via your website but it may work if you are having them all turned into you. just my 2 cents worth. maybe someone esle has more ideas.

Angie, I think you should do it just like you said. YOU will be donating your profits to the charity, so YOU will write the check and file with your taxes.
