What websites do you use to advertise your business? What types of success have you had with it? And what are their costs?
Many thanks!

Hey Amy,
There are lots of different theories on this topic. I will give you my thoughts on the subject based on three years of experience and learning lots of lessons the hard way.
First and foremost, you want to be sure that the websites where you pay to advertise are well-established with a good ranking in the search engines and a high volume of traffic of people who are in your target market (which means you need to have defined your target market in advance. http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley1.gif). I don't recommend that you waste money advertising on any site with a Google page rank of less than 4, unless the site owner can show you proof that their numbers of hits from unique visitors are at least in the thousands each month. There are tons of brand-new sites out there that are looking to make quick money by charging an arm and a leg for advertising... don't fall for it! Any site that is new and just beginning to establish itself should be charging considerably less for advertisers, but many newbie site owners don't realize this and just price themselves in line with far more well-established sites. That said, keep in mind that a lot of hits doesn't guarantee a good return on your investment, either... it just increases the odds. You will have to go through some trial and error before you find the sites that show the most results for you.
In addition to selecting a good site on which to advertise, you may have to play around some with the wording of your ad. Just as in print advertising, different verbiage will have different results in different venues.
If you're trying several different ads at the same time, try utilizing a tracking code to see where the results are coming from. There are services out there that will give you different forwarded links to use, or you could do something like putting a "coupon code" in each different ad.
Hope that helps!
Blessings,
Christy

Google, Adsense pay-per-click. You set the budget... love that! Recruited 3 people, and 2 website sales. Have to watch the budget though...!

I have used Google Adwords with success.
I also do Article Marketing. Take a look at places like www.ezinearticles.com (http://www.ezinearticles.com). All you have to do is register, write your article, and post it. You advertise your business in your resource/author box. And by using keywords in your titles, you can get additional traffic. The beauty of this is that it's free. But it also takes time.
Good luck!

I participate in a lot of social networks. Not just forums, but social networks where I can hold a profile that really showcases my business and allows me to posts updateswith journaling and pictures.
Social networking placesI use include sites like Women for Hire, Work at Home on Ning, CafeMom, etc. I also have my own site where I can post updates and articles.
When I look to pay for an advertisement I want to know how many visitors a site is getting before I pay. Some sites post the information, while others don't post anything (which I don't understand).
I am more likely to pay for an ad in a newsletter that has a good number of subscribers for the cost.
