Hi, I was wondering what forms of advertising you do and which seem to gain you the most customers, parties, recruits? I am considering a window decal for my car through my company. Has anybody used these and are they profitable? Thanks for the help!

Hi Angie,

I have window decals. I think they are a great conversation starter and it's also a relief for a hostess to look our her window and see them if she hasn't met me yet.

Other than that, I really don't advertise. I make most of my contacts through parties, former hosts/customers, and word of mouth.

Good luck!

I used to have magnets on my car and they worked well. You need to be careful now though.

From what I understand, You can put a decal on your car and even a website, but your not allowed to put a company name or any contact info on your car unless its registered as a DOT vehicle. ALL business cars are now considered commercial and will pay that much more for their registration. If you are caught with company info or contact info and no DOT reg number they will fine ya up the wazoo. Check with your local DOT, I was told that its a nationwide thing.

I do a lot of online advertising, a get business from flyers and leaving business cards everywhere. I get the most work talking to everyone I come across. And I use myspace and get loads of parties off there.

I also do a lot of cross promotion with local companies.

We just got the oppurtunity to buy promotional items and I bought a shirt, mug and tote bagwhich came inyesterday. I have already received compliments on my mug and that lead to talking about my products! Now, I have two girls who want me to bring some of my products in tomorrow for them to see...and smell.

Definately check with the DOT, because if it IS national they do not enforce it everywhere. I have had car magnets without any problems (WV), but I had a recruit in NJ that had to remove hers.

I like to use buttons or a bag or something to carry to use as conversation starters. ALWAYS have biz cards on your person and if you have samples to attach to them all the better!

A bigger undertaking is to have a fundraiser ran by yourself. For example, last year I raised money for Make a Wish. I called the local MAW office and told them my idea and they supported me with flyers, press releases, a location for the event, a bunny costume and a person to put in it (Easter event), and they also got me on the local news! Pick a larger charity that has resources to get the word out. Don't expect to make any money from the actual event, however.

Remember this with advertising--justing getting the word out isn't enough especially with something like candles, which can be bought anywhere. You have to have outlets to show the quality of your product and you have to sell yourself.

I had a sign in my back window for a while. I only received a couple of calls on it, but one call resulted in a string of parties that produced over $10K in sales. Since the sign only cost me $54, I thought it was well worth it.

But I agree with the other ladies that you need to check out your local ordinances. I've also been told that some insurance companies will not insure your car with a sign on it. It turns your vehicle into a commercial vehicle. My insurance company had no problem with it, but some may.

You might also check out www.thebooster.com (http://www.thebooster.com) for things like buttons and other advertising. She has buttons specifically about party plan businesses you can put on your purse to get people to ask you questions.

Hi Angie,

Have ever thought of using promotional items? You can put up fliers and banners too, but it would be great to give out useful promotional products to your potential costumers for your name to always be remembered and never forgotten, Think of it as a token. You can give out pens, lanyards, etc. which are quite affordable and effective.
