As many of you have probably noticed there is a current aggressive promotional surge for an ‘online streaming video’ titled “The Secret”. It is produced by Paul Harrington (http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vstudio/aa718744.aspx) who is a Microsoft software design engineer. He is a self-described “mischief-maker”.

Harrington is accompanied by Rhonda Byrne who is an Australian television producer with productions such as “OZ Encounters - UFO's in Australia”, “The World's Greatest Commercials”, and “Australia Behaving Badly”.

The theme of this “secret” is quickly discovered in its most recent promotions. "Make more money." "Lose weight." "Fall in love." "Land your dream job." Sound familiar? Yes I know, rather disappointing isn’t it? What has been promoted as some mystical knowledge from our ancient ancestors is really nothing more than a very cleaver scheme to trick you by playing on your sincere desire for knowledge and discovery.

Take a look at this sensationalized promotion:

“The Secret has existed throughout the history of humankind. It has been discovered, coveted, suppressed, hidden, lost and recovered. It has been hunted down, stolen, and bought for vast sums of money. Now for the first time in history, The Secret is being revealed to the world over two breathtaking hours.”

How people get away with this is beside me. And what a slap-in-the-face to our true ancestors and ancient wisdom. Folks, there is nothing “hidden, lost, or recovered” in this very well known understanding. What you have been handed comes from a carefully planed strategy of deception. It is the theme of “trickery” that puts a very sour taste in my mouth. How about you? Do you favor this type of circus show ‘step-right-up’ ploy on matters of spirit? How many of you thought “The Secret” was something unknown and/or just discovered? Well don’t feel alone, no doubt you are in the company of thousands who thought they were ‘getting in’ on “The Secret”.

The Truth about ‘The Secret’----there is no such thing.

Although I am a Catholic, Christian, and believer in trinity faith, I have also been practicing Metaphysics for over 20 years. The core of metaphysical beliefs is that we (humans) are empowered to create our reality. Those most advanced are believed to be able to “manifest upon thought”. In other words, what they would hold in belief was brought forth and made to reality. There is NOTHING secret about this.

If you want to know “The Secret”, simply go to any one of thousands of metaphysical churches around the nation and world. Science of Mind, Church of Today, Unity, Religious Science, Divine Science to name a few. Simply look online or your phone book for the church nearest you.

Did you know the extremely successful 12 step foundation known as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), was based in beliefs from the Oxford Group (http://www.aabibliography.com/aahtml3/12stepsnewthought.html), a metaphysical organization?

Metaphysical thought has been around since before Jesus. I don't care that The Secret was not a real secret. You know, for many people, that "secret" was just what they needed to hear. Maybe you've been told many of the same ideas by your uplines (like I have), or by someone else in your life. I once heard an author say that no idea is truely original - I think this may be the case with this. I think many enlightened people have known how to use positive energy and activity to make the most of their lives and the people behind The Secret have just put it in book (and free online video) form for the rest of us. Poor Mitch just sounds like he's bitter he didnt think of this marketing idea first.

While even King Solomon in the Bible basically said there is nothing new under the sun, I believe that it was truly a secret for many folks. There are aspects that many mainstream people were not familiar with, myself included. I think it is a great testimony to this fact by how many people are watching it and recommending it to others. If it were empty and did not hold value, it would be quickly swept aside.

I think everyone needs to decide what value this holds for them.


I must admit though, I was very ho-hum (sp?) about the film because I was waiting for some big revelation and it never came. To me, so much of what was in the film are values and viewsinstilled in me by my parents.

It is funny for me because I've been going down this sort of path of "spiritualness" for a few years now. Now that my friend (my AM) is in this biz and starting to be exposed to this sort of info, it is kind of a new idea to her. I think she is much more the norm and that is why so many people are excited about this film.

What is exciting to me is that in this sort of format this line of thought can reach millions more people than it ever has before. I think there will be a lot of people that will receive this info at the "right time" in their life and it will help them. After all, being receptive to different ideas is always about the timing isn't it? If I had heard of this 15 years ago I would have shaken it off as stupid or unbelievable just as I would have a network marketing business idea.

It is sad that Mitch had to make such a poo poo about it. I don't
think the film tried to give the impression that this is something new
that they've developed. In fact I'm pretty sure that they mentioned
several times that this line of thinking is NOT a new concept.

I don’t understand the point of this article. He doesn’t dispute the basic premise of the movie, which is just the law of attraction. He has a problem with the title she chose for the movie? Who cares that it’s not been a secret to everyone. Obviously it was a secret to her before she learned about it &amp; it was also a secret to thousands of others who have watched the movie. Just because it wasn’t a secret to him or others doesn’t matter.

If he’s a true student of it then he should just be happy it’s getting out to the masses &amp; not get nitpicky about some of the details that really have no bearing on the message.

I say it's to bad that someone has to poop on the idea of promoting the secret. Did they charge you money for it? NO didnt think so. Stay positive and things are going to happen for you, stay negative and "watch out"

I think some people are misreading or didn't completely comprehend Mitch Battro's points which are as follows;


1. You don't need hype and sensationalism to teach truth


So for those who buy into over commercialized hype--great--if it works for you then that is where you are at in your learning.


2. He compares this touted "new Truth" as something that isn't really new and points out factual examples of where this truth has openly existed for anyone to find it. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with as simple as a concept as that.


3. He even goes on to remind people that Truisms exsit, including this one, yet they don't work unless they are properly applied citing "faith and works". What's so hard to understand about that?


4. If you were truly an open minded person you would find no offense in the things he says--he simply is sharing an alternative viewpoint for one to consider. If you don't want to consider it but diss the guy in the process, that's your perogative.


I hope some of you will grow in understanding. Perhaps that will ultimately help you in your WAHM business.

Wow! That sounded harsh and judgemental. People just posted their opinions (and yes, you are entitled to yours as well) about the article you posted. I wasn't offended by his article. I simply think that regardless of whether one terms it as sensationalized or anything else, I am just glad that the message is getting out. We all are taught things directly &amp; indirectly in life and are exposed to things so that we can grow and learn as we go. If this helps someonemove to the next level, who am I to criticize how it is done? As I said earlier, it truly was a "secret" to many people. Let's not focus on the negative in any of this. I too am glad that this is getting out to the masses - imagine how great it would be if more people started living like this! For those of you who are new to the concept - have you noticed a difference in your life since implimenting the principles? I have. I won't say that I'd never heard of the basic ideas, but honestly to see everything laid out and spoken about on tv, it made more sense for me. Since I have started to focus on more positive aspects of my life and have taken action to fix the negatives I have most definately seen a difference! I'm sure it will carry over to my business soon. smileys/smiley1.gif

I love that this can reach every aspect of our lives! I wasn't raised being exposed to many of the ideals that were addressed in the movie so this has been very welcome in my life. I have seen a significant change in the quality of my life over the past 2 years andsome of that is directly in relation to things I learned from the movie and have applied over the last 4 months or so.

If you listen to Stacy Thorn on, I think it's Track 6 or 7 of the Basic Consultant Training CDs (the ones around 2005), she talks about what she tells herself. Mainly "I am a sponsoring magnet." She then goes on to say that "what you think about, you bring about." No Secret - but same concept of the law of attraction. Personally, I think it's great that people are starting to think about this more. Terming it "the Secret" helps make it apply to the masses. Even Oprah says in the beginning of the show - "I have always lived my life this way, but I didn't know it was a Secret."


I'm not really sure why others are being so negative on this thread, as it has always been a pretty positive group of people (at least in my experiences). I think that dissing other people's views is really the anti-Secret, as it is truly negative and thereby attracts negativity into your life (a/k/a the Secret).

Perception is a funny thing. I didn't realize the people in this thread were being overly negative. I think he was rather negative in his article but I didn't think the responses to it on this thread were rude or anything. I would've assumed the article was posted for discussion, which is what I thought was going on.


For me personally I choose to view the movie as a positive thing b/c it's going to reach so many people who wouldn't have known about it otherwise. And the movie, for them, if more than likely a starting point to then go learn more from various sources. To me that is a good thing. Some people, including this guy apparently, have a problem with the movie. That's fine with me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.I don't think anyone on this board would begrudge them that.

I have always heard about the law of attraction and "sort of" understood it, but this moviemade itmuchclearerto me. I personally loved it and bought it just to remind me to be positive about things. I agree that most of what was in the movie was no big secret, but I think that many, many people (myself included) needed to see/hear all of this to truly understand the law of attraction and how it can work/make your life better. I agree that the name of the movie might have been a bad choice since it has started this whole "what's the big deal.....it's no secret" kind of thing. No...it isn't a secret, but it is something alot of us didn't really know about or really understand.


In the end....what the movie has to say I believe is something that many people in this world need to hear. Whether they choose to try/use it or not is up to them. I work with the public and know that there are many, many negative people out there that just complain, complain, complain....and don't realize what this is doing to them and their livesAND the people around them! And most of those people would just watch the movie and complain somemore! Wouldn't do some of them a bit of good! If and when I run into those people....I am just going to smile and turn the other way! No thanks!


I loved the movie! What harm can it do to hype it up? None at all. If anything it may just make some people around us better people! I think the ones that are cutting it are just people that need to "get a dig in" all the time. If not about this....it would be about something else. Did it help to cut the movie down? Probably not!

The movie has many positives. The SEcret isn't a secret however, the name of the DVD gets your attention.It is based on the book, The Science of getting Rich. That book was written in the early 1900's. The movie is a great visual tool. Nothing wrong with that. It is the same as exercise. We all know about exercise but we don't use it. We chose to not use our energy properly or eat properly. We know what is best but we go the other way. I Have known about the SEcret my whole life since my dad had that book and studied The Emerald Tablets. There was a quick scene at the beginning of the movie that showed the tablet. The other thing he had was the recording of The Strangest SEcret from the 50's. Yes it might be the same repetition of the same concepts. REading these above statements makes me see how everyone's energy is going in their lives. With the law of attraction you will also know the law of allowing. Don't resist other opinions. When we all get so tied up we realize something is brewing inside us. I think you just have to Bless people and let them go. I am no holy roller here. I just have been exposed to many different parts of this world and you really have to appreciate the beauty in everything. Gratitude is the Biggest thing. This alone brings you to a different level. I am grateful that we have the internet where we can express ourselves.

Hi all! Haven't been around for awhile, but just couldn't resist giving my two cents for what it is worth.


I think everyone has valid points. I can see how the original poster could see this concept as not new,basically simple and think that this is just another way to play on people's needsin order to make money for themselves, etc.


But it is people like this that attack other's beliefs, projects, etc. in order to promote their own beliefs that I have a problem with.


Practicing the secret, if I let someone like this into my inner circle it would bring about other people that might in the future attack me and my ideas seeking to better themselves at my cost.


Instead, I would want people to think for themselves and challenge my ideas in an open, loving positive manner such as this board has always done without attacking the thoughts and ideas of others.


While Mitch's post was not entirely negative he tried to suggestively lessen the credibility of the Secret by posting projects of the author's that he thought were questionable. He also used words like "trickery", "slap in the face", "how people get away with this is beside me", etc.


All of this puts doubt in someone's mind and then they begin to question what otherwise they had embraced and felt good about.


All of this reminded me of a book that Oprah promoted years ago, can't remember the name right now, but I am sure someone on here will and let us know.


Basically the concept was this; Have you ever went to work or somewhere and felt really good, your hair was just right, you felt good in your outfit, etc. And then one person says to you, "wow, are you sick? You don't look well." And then all of a sudden, you feel sick, everything you were feeling before is gone because you let the statements of one person affect you.


Think back to when you started in @rbon and there were those who supported you (even when in the back of their mind they might have doubted it) and then there were those that attacked it from the beginning and made you feel stupid for even considering it......


who do you want to surround yourself with?......which do you think would make you more successful?........


It is no "secret", but it sure is nice to be reminded and to hear how others everyday have had to learn to practice this positive frame of mind in order to lead a truly happy, successful life.

For example in our businesses, we promote @rbon and what we love about it. We don't have to promote it by pointing out the bad points of other skin care lines.

Ah, but that's just it. Mitch has a huge following of people who are looking for deeper answers in life who aren't satisfied with the "norm".


Thus, his opinions are just as valid as anyone elses especially if they are tailored to the more aware person who already has familiarity with other thought processes.


He's entitled to tailor his viewpoint to his audience that shares the disdain for superficial "get rich quick" schemes. I see nothing wrong with that. Of course, it's all in how you "spin it" (a marketing term) to reach a larger audience.


His viewpoints may not sit well with you but the reality is that other viewpoints in life exist. I know some people are very uncomfortable with anything that rocks their boat especially if they have worked hard to keep it afloat. They will shun immediately from anything they remotely perceive as a threat to their inner security and will turn away.


I have run into this mindset in all walks of life, even with Arb consultants who really don't want anything they perceive as "negative" to interfere with the goals that are driving them for material success.


If other people's experiences, which formulate their opinions, are not allowed to be shared in an open and non-confrontational manner, then the "Secret" laws are not being applied correctly as someone else has pointed out.


Growth can be a painful thing for many because it involves change...change from one place of comfort...to a possible unknown which can frighten many.


In our society today, we are conditioned to be a Consumer. We need things delivered to us in comfortable "safe" ways that we can accept without feeling bad or negative about it.


But there are people in this world who have moved beyond being a mere consumer to looking at the WHOLE picture, inner to outer, individual to group, local to globally, etc. and want to work on higher levels of thought to make this world a better place, even if it only starts with an individual ina little bit here, a little bit there, approach.

It is difficult (for me at least) to read your response (especially #4) to those of us who responded to the article with our thoughts and see that as non-confrontational. To saythat "If someone were truly open-minded..." is a judgement of what you think it takes to be open-minded and seems to become a little confrontational. When it comes right down to it, it is all semantics...where we are in life, what we choose to believe, etc. If it is truly your intent to help or enlighten, perhaps it would be best kept for when someone asked for that help.

Yes, isn't the internet great that we can all share out thoughts without resorting to attacks on one another? I'm sure you didn't mean to attack me did you? I mean no offense, but it's possible you were having a bad day as we all do from time to time.


Unfortunately some people's ideas about what is respectable is not done in an objective manner. Not everyone has taken logic courses in College for example and wouldn't understand what critical thinking is about. So that topic can't even be discussed if all are not on the same page right?

I never disagreed with his viewpoints or yours for that matter. I think you make valid points as many others in this post.


What I do disagree with vehemently is that you do not have to put down others and their beliefs when trying to promote your own.


I think that you can question and challenge people's thoughts in an open and friendly manner that allows people to look at both sides and make their own decisions. Moreover, at the end of the process be respected by both parties regardless of the outcome.


If Mitch is such a great guy and has some great information he would like to share, why not share it? If he wants to challenge us to think in a different manner, etc. why not do it?


My point was "why does he have to put down "the secret" in order to do it?


And having a huge following does not make someone right orsuccessful.....look at Hitler, Stalin, Jim Jones, Bin Laden.

I just wanted to comment- there's an oldlearn and burn out there with Donna Weiser (one of my all time hero's) that speaks of the sponsoring magnet, writing down what you want to achieve 10 times, saying it over and over again, etc. She also spoke about "like attracts like". This isn't anything new- Dr. Dyer (another one of my hero's) has spoken about this for many years. I personally think as Oprah said, the world is hungry for a change. First let me say while I don't agree withthis author's choiceof words and his criticisms, I really don't mind that his anti-Secret article was posted on this board which has overwhelmingly shown support for TheSecret. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs.


However, I am compelled to make a statement.


In this sort of business,you have got tostay positive in order to succeed.


If you are constantlyfinding fault in your sponsor and upline,and getting snippy withpeople who don't even know you butwho go out of their way to help you, and being sarcastic with the people who try to participate in a discussion withopposing views, I think you need tore-evaluate why you are in network marketing. What do you expect to achieve? Are you also going to find fault with and get snippy at your clients and anyone who joins your team? Where do you think that will lead you?

First the surprise:

Well I guess ‘the secret’ is kind of like a box of chocolate --- you never know what you’re going to get. I have just found out the book and author of which this shameless propaganda was based, has similar feelings as my own. The original authors are Jerry and Esther Hicks. The book of which the so-called ‘secret’ is based is titled “The Law of Attraction”. http://www.abraham-hicks.com/LOA.html.

The so-called ‘secret movement’ is based on the Hicks teachings and book. But something happened along the way. The nasty little ‘secret’ of what the scam artist promoters wanted to do with the Hicks teachings were tagged from the very beginning. I will place below the exact letter which was written by the Hicks representative in response to the dishonorablemarketing of their work.

“The Australian producer of “The Secret” has been inspired by the teachings of Abraham-Hicks as well as many other remarkable teachers. What was aired in this special was as much a “secret” to Jerry and Esther as it was to everyone else. Jerry and Esther were merely invited to participate and accepted the invitation. It was not produced by Abraham-Hicks Publications, and we are not currently marketing the DVD.

Although Jerry &amp; Esther appreciate many aspects of the finished film, it ended up being quite different from what they had originally contracted to participate in. So when the producer recently insisted on further significant changes in their agreement regarding marketing, distribution, and theatrical rights, Jerry &amp; Esther opted instead to be cut out of the film altogether. This is still in negotiation.”

I’ll just say thank goodness it didn’t take long to uncover this story. I hope now you will be better able to keep things in perspective. What a shame for the so many people who were ‘hood-winked’ into the “magical quick fix” scam as presented in the same way as so many ‘lose weight fast’, ‘earn easy money at home’, ‘how to get rich quick in real estate’, etc. etc. But the entity I have most concern about is metaphysics itself.

Folks, I apologize for the many of you who have been taken by this scam, as you can see Jerry and Esther Hicks have described they too are victims. But if the “law of attraction” holds true, then this whole circus-show which sucked good ole Oprah in as well, was meant for a reason. Perhaps it was to give us a ‘trial run’ at how we will handle the many many false prophets coming our way ‘in this time’ as prophecy has predicted. Not just biblical prophecy, but almost every ancient text from the elders of the Maya to the Egyptians, to the Dogon’s, to the Essenes.

Just one last note: It is my truth (belief) that metaphysics are real and most powerful. Please separate the principals from the scam. I would suggest metaphysical knowledge takes a lifetime to master. It is most challenging, but also most fulfilling. It is of my opinion, and my experience, that metaphysical teachings and its implementation is not to be done alone or with some ‘get rich quick’ DVD. Just as with every single ancient tribe of the world, an elder---mentor---teacher needs to be involved.

I wish you well on your journey and perhaps Carl Jung was right about what he calls “synchronicity”. Whatever happens in ones life good or bad, is part of the bigger picture and is indeed in perfect order.

At first reading of your initial comments I was quite indignant at what you shared with us (ie. your beliefs). Then I read you second Newsletter about it and now totally agree with you. Yea, I was wondering what the "so called secret" was all about and looked it up. My first thought after reading about it was it's no secret. Ancient peoples have displayed those principles in their art,songs,stories since the dawn of human time. Sadly, if "the secret" seems new to you then you probably aren't ready to know about it yet. I don't think those
principles can be understood unless discovered on your own as a result of your own inquiry and experience, otherwise it becomes a message out of context. And,
certainly, if one is primarily interested in it to lose weight or gain monetary advantage, then they definitely are nowhere near ready to be aware of it's principles.

Don't want to break your bubble but I am 70 years old, and learned the "secret" back in the eighties in Science of Mind Church in CA. It is really not a secret but something we all will have a better life once we throw out the old crap of not being worthy, and separation from God and etc. It is really not something that can be learned over night or by watching a movie, it is something that takes a whole lot of cleaning out the closet and starting with an idea that the world is abundance and our own belief system is really what is holding us back from that which is God given in the first place.

I live in France and I remember well one year ago when the film the Secret was supposed to be broadcasted all over the world the same day but finally it never happened to be and I follow closely writing emails to the producer. This was already a trickery. And when I paid for viewing the film on my computer I was really disappointed and I even didn’t go to the end of the film because I understood from the beginning of the film that there was No Secret in fact, nothing has been lost, recovered or whatever. The advertisement of the film was a lie, “The Secret that will transform the world” ! But for us that have the “eyes and ears opened” it is just an example of the actual disinformation.

I read your e-mails "Earth Changes" all the time. Thank you. I have been in A.A. since 1975 and really have just started to understand it in the past 5-6 years, yes it is simple but not easy. We have been given the keys to the secret of life, it is free, takes constant work and awareness but is entirely worth it. It is a way of life that gives more than you give it. I have to say, I'm 100% with you on this one... it's been aggravating me from the get-go. Most people who emphatically proclaim, "We create 100% of our own realities" aren't the people who are suffering most in the world. Not that there's not some element of truth to our mental/spiritual being-ness affecting our lives in some way, but it's sad to see such distortions of it so widely promoted. I too, have been studying metaphysics for many years, but occasionally there are a few new discoveries about how and why certain manifestations work, so I bought the dumb film when it first came out. I have to say that I welcomed your take on "the Secret"......I too had been left with a sour taste, more in that I've seen these principles used to "get" material things but it seems to me that the true bearers of this knowledge don't use it for such mundane endeavors. All of this "want it badly enough, follow the rules and it's yours" stuff applied strictly to our earthly desires is really beyond me--but here are lots and lots of folks making big bucks by "teaching" others how to fulfill their every whim. At times I feel quite disgusted by the whole uproar--but that's my problem:&gt;) I would think that by the time one gets really proficient at these practices it's not a bigger house or a new Jag they'd be interested in materializing.

Preparing For Coming Earth Changes


I have begun to note it is not just the “external” (earth changes) which is shifting, but humans as well. Remember: we too have magnetic fields which surround each of us. I think it is not unrealistic to conjecture what is happening “externally” is also happening “internally”. I believe current science will acknowledge this notion, showing the Sun's "charged particles" and its influence on Earth's magnetic field is the impetus of change.
