Suggestions on where to start? I have no desire to learn Flash or any of that kind of programming, because most of my clients have no use for it anyway. However I'd like to learn how to develop databases that will work with websites...
www.yarmouthonline.ca (http://www.yarmouthonline.ca) for example is my site about my town. I'd like to build the business directory into a database and produce reports from it instead of doing the whole thing manually.
More so though for this one: http://www.yarmouthonline.ca/ywdc/lost/list.htm (http://www.yarmouthonline.ca/ywdc/lost/list.htm) it would be easier and more effective if I could run this from a database.
SO.... where do I start? Any highly recommended books or online resources?

learning from scratch is a bit tedious... i recommend you download a premade script and start from there modifying it. you can get nice free scripts at hotscripts.com
