Hi all,
I keep reading articles that tell me I can host multiple and separatewebsites on a single webhosting account, but then I'm told by someone who designs and administers websitesthat it's one account for one website and "multiple websites" means subdomains or someother cobbled together master "file" or connection.Other info and articles confuse me even more.
I have a basicDreamhost account, and I'd like toupload completely different, unrelatedwebsiteson them using different design software programs. Can I do that, or am I missing (or misunderstanding) something?
Thanks in advance.
Flo

Hi Flo - yes, it sounds like you've got it right. You can have one dreamhost account and under that account, you can have several domains. Each site's file manager would be kept seperate. These are not subdomains, but regular hosted domains having nothing to do with one another.
For example, I have one account at www.riversidewebspace.com (http://www.riversidewebspace.com) - I have 3 domains hosted: riversidewebstudio.net - wahmsr.us - and consultantconnection.com ... all 3 are different, non-relatedprojects. Hope that makes some sense! LOL

That's right. You can have many domains under one hosting account. If the websites take up a lot of space then this may not be practical.

Thanks allfor the help. I'd love to go back to my tech guy and do the "I'm right, you're wrong" happy superiority dance, but he'd just point out (again) that I have a website held together with little more virtual string, gum and popsicle sticks.
Sigh. As a webmaster, I'm a really good writer. :)Edited by: FloConner

Hi - I have a question related to this - I just for the first time yesterday made a add-on domain at my site criscollrj.com. It hasn't even showed up yet ;) But I made another wordpress blog under it, for my typing business.
Now, my question is, we made an "umbrella" name for our business and that is the name of the new domain. We want to put my business and my husband's business "under" that in two blogs, and that part I do know how to do. But here's the question- we'll still have the umbrella site, the main site, where I can place an index page once it's working, but I wasn't planning to put an actual business blog there. I thought I'd just put a page with a link to those two blogs. Being unfamiliar with CSS except for "filling in the blanks" and winging it with Word press by the seat of my pants, is there a way to make an intro page with CSS language without actually loading another wordpress blog (I only have space for 3 on our site and as it is I have to delete my daughter's wordpress [which she never uses] to make room for our two business blogs (I already have the personal one below under criscollrj domain).
The business pages I made before just looked like this:http://www.criscollrj.com/type-align.html and I'd really like it to look more up to date with the indexes going down the side, etc., but hate to pay more for my site to allow for 4 blogs....
advice, or just tell me if you understand my question?
TIA! smileys/smiley4.gif
