I'm curious about Ebay. It sounds like a fun way to make some extra cash. I like having my yearly garage sale, and wonder if my odds & ends 'junk' would sell on such a big site. And I've thought offocusing on selling books or clothing, but I see that these don't seem to pay out.
For all of you experienced Ebay sellers: is it better to sell anything and everything, or go with a focused niche?

It's hard to believe no one has responded before now, but here's my $.02. I recommend that you inventory what you sell at your garage sale and place the items into eBay categories. Then, do some research andfind outwhat the completeditem selling prices were. If they're equivalent or more than what you would make at your garage sale, then by all means list them. Of course, you'll have to factor out your costs in both situations to determine which one is more profitable.
I can say this now from experience, because I didn't start out this way. I was so excited about eBay (and still am), that I pulled everything out of my closets& bought merchandise and just listed it. Yes, I did some research but not enough. Consequently, I didn't know the market in some areas and lost money. For me, I've always been able to sell electronics, toys, movies, children's clothing, and computer software. Books, mens & womens clothing and some collectibles are harder.
By doing your research first, you'll find out the price points and whether the item is worthyour time& thefees to list.
