View Full Version : Wholesale buyers/rewarding hostesses

I noticed that several people commented on my comment about wholesale
buyers and rewarding the hostesses. I decided to start a new
thread because it really didn't have anything to do with the new
person's question, so I thought I would explain my approach here.
I always offer wholesale at my classes. It is the way I was
taught to do the business. I also always give the hostess credit
for those sales. I sometimes have to work creatively to do so,
but I always do. For example, of 3 people sign on as WBs and each
have a $150 order, I put $100 under 2 of them, to get them their free
product, and $250 under the other so I can reward the hostess. If
someone signs on for wholesale that orders the RE9 set (the most common
scenario) then it's easy, the hostess simply gets the $100 for $20 with
the order.
Of course we can imagine scenarios where you have to pay out of pocket,
but it's really rare. I can almost always work the numbers so
that I don't have to pay out of pocket.
I think it is important to reward the hostess, no matter which option
her friends choose. We don't want the hostess at odds with the
guests!! I think it was Ann that said that she simply doesn't
offer wholesale when the host is not signed up so that she doesn't have
that conflict. That's another way to handle it and the hostess
does not feel slighted.
I know a lady who hosted an Arbonne party for another consultant.
The consultant offered wholesale at the party and her friend signed on
with a $100 order. She had $150 in sales from other guests and
the consultant told her she did not qualify for the $100 for $20
because the $250 must be in retail orders. She was so mad about
it and really had a bad taste in her mouth about Arbonne. And,
her friend felt bad for getting the discount and not supporting her
friend.
My point is that you should probably pick one way or the other.
Either offer wholesale at the class and reward the hostess even if it
costs you a little bit, or don't offer it at the class.
Another thing I do to get the hostess rewards is to turn the other
retail orders into an RSVP for the hostess. It gets me an extra
$75 in my paycheck, and the hostess is THRILLED!
Does anyone else have tricks they use to reward the hostess? I
love to hear the different ways people work their businesses.
Cheers,
-Beverly

Okay, now if someone at my first party orders only $40 worth of stuff and says she wants to buy it wholesale, whether i offer it or not, how does this affect the hostess? The product would still be $40 towards the $20 for $100. How come not everyone wants to be a wholesale buyer? I imagine everyone at my party wanting it even if i dont make a thing about offering, just so they can get the discount. KWIM?

since the $40 purchase wouldn't qualify her for the free product, I would put it on the host's order. if the $40 person opens the $29 account, make sure she books a class and if she wants her free product, she'll have to hold the class within that calendar month that her account opened.
I also love doing the rsvp for the host, so then when she gets all her stuff, the guests will hear about how much stuff she got for basically free. Then I explain to her that if any of the guests from her show have a class, open a new account and rsvp, they'll be signed up under her and she'll get a $50 thank you from Arbonne. Then she's sure to talk her guests into being hostesses. Then you can easily lead into the biz op. "look at this, you already have a team." Also, make sure they know that rsvps can only be done in the first 2 calendar months, and that they can actually do this 2 times if sales reach $1000 (original class-350+2 more from guests bookings=$1050) then she can do another rsvp!
michele327, you may just want to play around with the online order form at arbonne without actually ordering. I play around with orders and work the numbers quite a bitbefore I actually hit the button and order, so I can get the best deal for the host. You want to make the host as happy as you can- the happier she is, the more referral you'll get from her, the more chance she'll join your team.

That's a great idea Cassandra! Now one more question, how is the host getting the RSVP for practically free? Is this assuming that she has a huge amount of money spent at her party?
Michele

it's assuming there's $350 in retail sold, then use those orders to pay for the rsvp, she then gets the other $350 of the $700 order for free. this does take your right now money tho, since you are using all of the $350 from the retail orders, but you will get the rsvp bonus in your next check from Arbonne.
one of my team members recently had a $1400 class, with 3 RE9 set sold with accounts, made an rsvp order, anther $250, the host made out big time. She got $750 in products for only $80. She sure was happy! and my team member is getting the $50 rsvp bonus, has 4 $100+ consultants, and 6 bookings from that one class! How'd she do it? the 10 guests were all either pupped or given sample packs prior to the show, the others who were invited but didn't go- were the ones who didn't get to try the products first.

Another question: im playigh around now with the order form. Lets say i qualified for 5 bonus products but only one person actually spent $50. So one would go to her and the rest i could get correct?
Another question, when i do the order and i have let say 5 credit cards. I add the total amount of order, tax, and the $7 shipping. That is the total amt on the card correct? Since I only will need a total shipping amount of $7 for my whole pretend order, how am i going to get that $7 back that i charged them? Does this make sense to you?

michele, if you have all credit cards for an order, especially if they are retail price, I would call the order in to Arbonne, then you would get the right now money in your next override check. if anyone else has a different way of doing this, please let me know
as for the shipping, I usually just 'wing it', depends on the amount ordered, how many people are ordering, if I have biz aids to add to order, sometimes I just eat it if it's a retail order, all depends, I'd love to hear what some others do for shipping charges, do you have a set system on what and how much to charge each guest?

If your total credit cards are more than you owe, for example if you
had a class that was all retail and everyone paid with credit cards,
then you have to call it in, because the computer will only let you put
a total of the amount you owe. If you want to charge the credit
cards more than you owe (so you get your profit), you can call them in
and the customer service rep can force that amount in.
The reason people don't all sign up is that it only really makes sense
when you are ordering $100 or more. There is a $29 fee + a
special $10 shipping fee for the new consultant packet (unless you have
a $250 order attached). So, if you only order $40 worth of stuff,
it would actually cost you more to get the discount!
Does anyone else really have the problem of people wanting to sign up
with less than a $100 order? I never have that problem.
Michelle, I would recommend sitting down before you put in your order
and figuring all the ways you could do it and which way works out the
best. Will your sponsor help you? If not, find out who an
upline manager or VP is and ask for their help. You are
supporting their business, so they will be glad to help.

If you have 5 people at a party that sign up to do wholesale and no retail buyers.......how do you put those orders under the host? If the wholesale buyers spend 250$ why don't you give them the 100 for 20? Afterall, they are spending the $$. Also, if you put other amounts under the wholesale buyers that they are not really purchasing to get the 100 for 20....then where do you have the products delivered? Does the new wholesale buyer have to deliver the items that are not theirs or do you have everything shipped to your home and then you deliver them. When I sign up a wholesale buyer, I have the order shipped directly to them. But I also do not put anything else on their "ticket" except what they order.
So far, I have been able to reward my hostess with the 100 for 20 due to having enough in retail orders. I would love to understand your method (beverly)that you describe but I don't get it.
thanks for any input you might have.

You don't give the WBs the $100 for $20's because they are for the
hostess! No one would expect to get the hostess rewards at a
party they attended just because they purchased enough to get the
hostess to the next level. They know they will get rewards for
their friends' purchases when they host their own partysmileys/smiley1.gif
I'll explain how I reward the hostess with this example. Let's
say 3 people sign on as WBs, each with a $150 order. I put $100
under 2 of them and the remaining $250 under the other one. I
reward the hostess that way. As I said before, there are
scenarios where you will not be able to work it out that way. I
have not run into one yet. If I do, I will have to pay a little
bit of money to cover it. In my opinion, it's not the hostesses
problem if people sign on wholesale. She brought in $250, so she
gets $100 for $20. The most it's going to cost me is $45.
But, like I said, it's never happened that way. I've always found
a way to reward the hostess. There always seems to be some retail
orders to work in and half the time my new WBs order the RE9 set
anyway, making it really easy for me.
Do you all offer wholesale at your classes and then just tell the
hostess those sales don't count or what? I'm curious how other
people work it.

OK, i get how you do that but one more question.....when you sign up a wholesale buyer and put the additional products on that "order" to get the 100 for 20, do you just have the orders shipped to you instead of directly to the WB's? Then after their initial order you just tell them that when they order under their ID number their products will come directly to them?
cassandra
05-23-2005, 08:51 AM
if a WB has 'host special' going to host, then ship it to you and you separate the order, so there's no confusion. When they personally order, they can have it shipped to wherever they want.
Beverly
05-23-2005, 05:28 PM
That's right. I personally always have the WB's stuff sent to me
for the initial order. I want my stickers on it in case they give
it as a gift to someone or something. Then the recipient will
know who to call to reorder!! I also like to package it up nice
with a thank you note and a sample for something else I think they'd
like.

It would be cheaper on that day to pay $40 full price than to get 35% off and pay the $29 start-up.
Plus some people just want to do it the best way they can for the hostess and the consultant if it's their first time buying. You can let them know that they can buy at regular retail the first time, then sign up to be a wholesale buyer for their next purchase.Offer todo a party for them and allow them to be the"host" for their own party with their friends. They will be able to buy wholesale at their own party (if necessary) and they will also get the hostess specials as well as the commission on the order (they probably won't even have any out of pocket cost). You can offer to do the party for them as an example of"how to"~ just in case they decide they don't just want to be a wholesale buyer after that party, but a business builder instead.

I have a quick question. I just hosted an Arbonne party last night and the advisor sold 2 of the $700 for $350 systems. That is $700 in sales so far and I have some other people looking on line. The advisor has informed me that I get no credit for the sales because they weren't retail! Needless to say I am not very happy. She has left a message that once the party is closed, after a week or so I can probably get $100 for $20? I think I should get atleast $200 for $40. Doesn't seem like it's worth it to do a party! Also, I am going in with one of the customers on the $29 fee with the $700 for $350, so am already spending over $175. I just want to make sure this is how Arbonne operates with their hostesses in case my lady isn't sure of what she's doing. Any suggestions would be great!

Hi Pam!
I'm excited to hear that you held such a successful Arbonne party - I'm sorry to hear there has been some confusion over the rewards :-(.
Since your sponsor is an independent consultant, she is able to decide how she wants to reward her hostesses ---- so I don't want to overstep my bounds by answering for her. There are many wonderful hostess rewards and sign up rewards available and it's always great to have those defined before the party begins so that you aren't left wondering as you are now. Sounds like maybe that didn't happen for you and now there is confusion.
With your $29 sign up and the order that is being placed under your new account, you should certainly have the option of selecting a Free product. So that is a great benefit :-) You also have access to discounted spa sets - love those!!
Yes, she does have the ability to obtain some $100 for $20's but that is up to her on how she uses those. Personally, I like my hostess to receive those, but it is not required. Those can be requested within a day or two of closing the party and then take a few days for delivery.
I would definitely sit down with her and go over what you were promised and what you thought you were getting. No doubt she wants you to be a happy hostess who would recommend holding and Arbonne party to her friends and who would want to host again.
Maybe others will jump on and reply to this post....I know the thread is very old, but your post is recent.
Hopefully I am giving good advice here. You also have access to your upline at any time to help work any confusion out (customer service can always help you locate them). It's always good for you to know the in's and out's to all the available benefits in case you want to host in the future or start a business (even at just the fun hobby level).
Best wishes!!!
