Hi everyone .
I am new to this board and I hope some one can help me. Mama's Remedies, is my home business and I make bath salts, essential oils blends,(Have one that works great for putting kids to sleep) and soy candles. I am having trouble getting some of them to throw a good scent. I tried just about everything I could think of and read. If anyone has any ideas, please help.n Some of my candles are selling off the self and others, just because the smeel isn't as strong as the others.smileys/smiley5.gif

Hello Michele,
It depends on the scent. Some scents are much stronger than others. Sometimes no matter what you do you just won't get a strong scent throw. Also, try purchasing your scents from different candle supply businesses and see which of their scents are stronger. Sometimes it's the quality of the fo's.

Hi Michele,
I wish I could help you with this but I do not make my own
candles. I tried itwhen I first got into work from home things
but quickly found out it was not for me.
How long have you been making your own candles?

Hi Natalie,
I've been doing it for three years off and on. I have a disabled son and for about 1 1/2 years, I needed to stop and put all my time in to him. I started back up about 4-5 months ago. Before I was using Pafflin(?) wax, but soy is much easier to use and everybody over here loves it. Soy waxlots of benefits that the other wax doesn't have. Nobody wnts me to switch back either, so I am trying to get this to work.I hope someone can help me. smileys/smiley19.gif

Hi Michele,
I don't make my own candle either. But maybe try you local library--they usually have nice books on candle making & troubleshooting.
Also--I did a quick search on googleand found a few sites w/ forums that may help....

Hi Michele:
About 7 months ago, I had the same problem. Now, my soy candles give off a very strong cold throw as well as a hot throw.
Solutions for you:

How much fragrance oil are you adding to 1 lb of soy wax?

What type of soy wax are you using? I went through 3 different companies before I found the right wax.

Have you tried making the candle with just the fragrance and no other additives or dye?

Feel free to pm me. It will get better!

Michelle-
Hi there! I agree with what the other posters said. The type of soy wax you use does definitely make a difference. And some scents just don't throw as well as others. I have customers who actually prefer the more lightly scented candles, though. I personally like them to be very strongly scented. I usually use 1 oz. of fragrance per lb. Sometimes a little more, sometimes less. Perhaps you can just tell your customers that some fragrances are just stronger and some more subtle, then let them pick which ones they prefer.

You will want to keep some at a subtle smell. Be sure to let your customers know. I have a few customers that have very sensitive noses and only like subtle scents. So don't fret. :)
