Hi Everyone,
Has anyone put an ad in a newspaper? I'm going to do it--it's specifically to
find new business builders. I know some NVP's have done this, so if they
can, so can I! If you've done this before (or even if you haven't) can you
suggest some wording? I know we can't use the company name, so I was
thinking along the lines of "Be your own boss, we're now recruiting
consultants for a botanically-based Swiss skin care, health and wellness
company, etc. etc."
Thanks!

I think this is a good idea. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has done it. I have heard that after placing an ad, you rent a meeting room and then interview them there. I know someone who saw an ad and called so it must work especially if the vp's do it.

I just placed an ad and worded it something like this.. not sure exaclty...
Looking for leaders; people who can share this good news with others and people who want to change their lives financially by helping others do the same. Pure, Safe, Beneficial Skin Care Company. Ground floor opportunity. The sky is the limit. Please contact me at: blah, blah, blah
Sorry I don't rememeber the specifics as I haven't received my confirmation yet.
Hope this helps! :)Edited by: cwentz

You can place ads with the company name if you send a copy of your ad to compliance. I just used one of the example ads in the IC area of the website. Added my contact info and website submitted it to compliance for approval and got a response within in 3 days. They said I need to changesome of the wordingand resubmit it. I'm in the process of making the changes and will resubmit it tomorrow for final approval.
They did want to know what area of the paper I was going to place the ad andhow long it will run in the paper.
I'm excited to see what kind of response I get, I think I will add "this ad has been approved by compliance" at the bottom just so I don't get a bunch of calls from other consultants.

If you ran an ad in the paper, what kind of success did you have?

It seems to me we don't need to use the name for the ad to be effective. It's
possible you may get more of a response without the name. Why? If we say
the name people can go to the website and look up information by
themselves. They may make a decisiion then and there. If they call you
without knowing the name of the company, you'll have more control over
getting them interested.
Anyone disagree? Let's hear from you all!

I just put an ad in the paper saying something like this:
Want to earn extraincome and have fun?
Looking for motivated business partners to work as a team to achieve the great things life has to offer. Work from home, be your own boss, set your own schedule. Consumable, pure, safe and beneficial swiss produts for all ages. Skin care, aromatherapy, cosmetics, weight-loss/nutrition, personal care. Parties optional. Call ...
No inquiries yet, and it has been a week. What to do? I'm running for a month so we'll see...

Hi wayupnorth,
What type of paper did you run the ad in?

It was the Yukon News, which is our territorial (provincial) paper. It comes out three times a week. It cost me $60 (cdn)to run it for a months as it was over 30 words.

I ran an ad several times in our monthly Parent paper, April to July. I will have to look for the wording, I designed it specifically for that audience. I got quite a few responses but only one that followed through and signed up. It seemed like the majority that responded were looking for a get rich quick deal or just were in such a desperate position they had nothing to start with, not even the $29. The personthat did sign up is a sweetheart but has not been actively pursuing her biz because she had a baby & we are just now beginning to get started on training again. I have to say that's one of the things I love about this biz...that we meet & get to know folks we would not have had the opportunity to otherwise!

Allison--Based on my feedback from compliance when obtaining permission to run my ads, I thought it was required that weinclude the @ name. I do know that @ required me to provide my entire name, and 2 forms of contact (ie phone number & email addy).
I think it's a good idea to include the @ name so that people know it's a legitimate company and not just a fly-by-night company that's going to disappear tomorrow. There are sooo many ads for wah businesses, most of which don't seem legit at all. I'd rather set myself apart from those ads and state exactly who I am and what I'm offering. It adds credibility, don't you think? As far as them going to the @ website andmaking a decision then and there, if you can word the ad cleverly enough, I think you can intrigue them enough to follow through and contact you....

Mary,
I'm not sure how you can do that...any ideas?
I'm just worried that people will look at the website, say, "Oh, it's just
another network marketing company," and not call. What would make them
call us?
