Default Ameriplan and Insurance?

Can people use Ameriplan with their insurance? For example, if I have a prescription that I pay $10 for with my insurance, would I still get a discount with Ameriplan?

Thanks!

Meghan

It depends how the providers feel about doing that cause some think of it as double dipping but if you find ones that will it great!

oops I was talking about when you go to the doctor not the prescription part of the business, my bad
I was on the phone when I responded.

With prescriptions you will use whichever is cheaper for you. You won't be able to use both. However there are lots of prescriptions that insurance doesn't cover that you can get a discount on with Ameriplan. For instance we cover many Stop Smoking aids that Insurance companies don't cover. Also just recently I found out from a team member that BCBS is not covering Viagra and similiar Rxs but we do.

So in some instancesthe insurance is cheaper but a lot of times we are :-). You can search by prescription for prices at AmeriPlan and just click on Provider search

With doctors visits it does depend on the dr. if they will do both. But with Rx's you just do which is cheaper. Generally if it's a generic AmeriPlan might be cheaper. On all the rx's I've needed since I've been with AmeriPlan, AmeriPlan has been cheaper on every one than what my insurance covers. I love it!

To elaborate a bit - I'll share with you what I did last month....
We have dental insurance through my husband's work. You hear insurance and you think, GREAT! I'm covered!

I had to have a tooth pulled, and a bridge and a couple fillings. My insurance has a $500 PER YEAR CAP and they cover NO MAJOR dental work. I had no idea until I was handed the estimate for my dental work and saw the patient cost of $5500. I think my jaw hit the floor. I happened to be at a provider that also took Ameriplan. When they used my Ameriplan discount first and then filed the difference with my insurance it saved me $2500.

I do the same thing, go to a dentist that takes both my insurance and Ameriplan. Our insurance does have an annual max of $1500; however, that doesn’t go very far and there’s a lot of restrictions/limitations with the insurance so it is so nice to have Ameriplan. We actually save more with Ameriplan for anything major than with the insurance. Unfortunately, most people believe the same as you described when they have dental insurance until they need something more major done and get the bill but then it’s too late.

Personally, if we didn’t have dental insurance through my husband’s employer (where they pay the premium), we would never purchase dental insurance and instead, hands down, use Ameriplan because if you buy insurance and “do the math”, you’ll usually find your insurance premium equals what your plan benefit is for the year so you’re really not saving anything. And if you don’t use it, you’re losing money.

As for the prescriptions, here’s a recent example of savings from one of my new IBO’s.

“Got my first Rx today!! Paid only $9.72 for a 30 day supply (generic) - I had been paying $19.00 co-pay with my insurance for the same thing!! The retail on this is $54.99!!”

This is something I always mention to any potential member...I get offers from insurance companies in the mail all the time to get their dental plan. I laugh at it because it just does not compare! I would never go out and get private dental insurance...one of them you spend $50 more a month (if there are 4 in the family, more $ if there are more members in the family) and you have waiting periods, deductibles, limits, exclusions, etc.

AmeriPlan is hands down the best individual dental program out there
