Pinging Your Site

Pinging is a shout out to the search engines that you have a new post. Wordpress has it set up to ping automatically. If you have a WP blog go to the writing settings and look under Update Services..

WP has one ping site listed. If you like you can add more ping sites. Here is a list of some of them:

Some people do not like the fact that WP auto pings because if it pings each time you update your blog and say you make a lot of tiny changes the ping services may not like it. There are plug ins you can add to just ping when you want.

You can also set up Pinging in your bookmarks so you can ping articles you write on directories etc. Very handy.

I use the MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer to keep WordPress from pinging every time I update a post because I tend to edit them a lot. There's also Smart Update Pinger.

Thank you for the comprehensive list...I've working on gathering a list of ping sites the last couple of weeks. I guess I don't have to look any further.
