Ive had success with ArticleMarketer (now DistributeYourArticles), but I only use it for promoting my back links to my site. For example, I would use it to get links back to a Squidoo lens that I did for my main site, but I don't use it to directly do my main site. That's just the way I do it, build lots of links to the links to my main site.

Default Manual Ezine Submission Works Better for me

I agree with a couple of the other unismartin & securedcc, manual submissions seem to work better for me. If you use one of the big ezines like ezine.com and you know the technique on how to write a good article with keywords implanted in the right place, you can get a pretty decent amount of traffic to your site. PM me if you're want a great educational resource on how to create articles that pull visitors to your site.

I think the decision what to use : automatic submission tools or submit your articles manually one by one, depends on what are you trying to achieve.
  • if you need tons of backlinks and fast > then use automation, but spin your article first.
  • If you need a targeted traffic, then write a really good article and promote it.

Though the thing about backlinks is > if you have few good ones, they count more then tons of just any links.

I prefer submitting my articles manually to high-PR article directories like ezinearticles.

I prefer to just do it by hand to avoid any risks. I want long term stuff, not short term. but, there is an auto submitter created by commission blueprint, you have to buy , but it's really effective.
