I would like to know how I can earn money with a website.

You can:

Create a site to sell affiliate products
Create a site to make money with Adsense
Create a site for the sole purpose of selling that site in a few months
Create a site to be the authority on some term like "cute dog sweaters" that no other site could beat then do some combination of the above.

Do you have a website already? If not, the easiest way to put a site together is to use Wordpress as your platform. However, if you are a web designer like me, then you can use anything.

Are they cute sweaters for dogs, or sweaters for cute dogs? Or both? Or do you get to decide, if you create the niche?

you can join with any affiliate program, PPC or you can sell something on ebay.

so many different ways to do it.

build an ecommerce site and sell physical products
build a site and become an affiliate of other peoples sites and just get commissions one you refer someone who buys
write a blog on a topic you know a lot about and sell advertising space on the blog, use google adsense to get started but when traffic is high enough sell ad spots

there are so many ways you can do it
