Default traffic

I am working on getting into this. Probably later this month of January. One of my main questions is what is the best way to get traffic to your site? I do not expect this to start quick - I know it takes a ton of work and time which I am very comfortable with. I know you need traffic and I see a lot of people on here making good money. What is the best way?

Thanks!

Rita

Traffic can be a very overwhelming thing to marketers starting out because there is no clear cut path. And that is what you need to remember, there is no exact traffic method to follow. There are many diverse ways to build your traffic. Once you understand that you can pick and choose traffic methods you like.

The key is to build links and use link diversity. So you will want traffic coming from several methods.
Here are some ways to build traffic.

article marketing

rss feeds

submitting site to directories

commenting on blogs

social bookmarking

participating in forums with your site in your signature

putting your link on different sites that you join

press releases

exchanging links with other sites

writing articles for other sites in exchange for a link

building web2.0 properties and linking back to your site

creating applications and selling or giving them away (but making sure a link to your site is on them)

Work at building links daily and your traffic will grow.

Ok this is what you want to do to get the traffic coming in to your site. This is assuming that you have already found your niche and keywords:

1) Build a website using your MAIN keyword as your title (good for ranking, also good if its in your domain name)

2) Pick 5 other keywords and write 5 articles on these keywords. Then create links on your main page using these keywords and then post articles onto your website under the matching keyword link. So this will give you 6 pages or keywords used on your website.

3) Now, take one of your six keywords and write 5 articles and post each one to the top 5 article directories, linking back to your main site. (Total of 30 articles)

This is a great simple model to follow. The more you write, the more traffic you will continue to receive.

I hope that this helps you.

I would also add that if you have any marketing capital to work with, there are many paid marketing strategies that are EXTREMELY effective, and can create immediate results.

PM me if you want me to email you a list of marketing sources that I personally use. I have built this list from over a year fulltime with affiliate marketing. It should help you quite a bit.

Why just 5 article directories? Why not 500? Spin them and send them to 400 or 500 directories.

My tip would be to just make sure you use multiple methods to drive traffic. There is no one best method and what works this month may not work next month. Plus if you are relying on something like Ezine to get your traffic, you never know when they may change their rules in a way that affects you negatively.

So do a lot of everything.

I agree that article marketing is a good way to get traffic flowing. I use the strategy of submitting to a few top article directories (I submit to 7), rather than the hundreds of them with "spun" articles. For me, article marketing has really paid off in terms of traffic and in search engine attention.

You can do link exchanges with other sites, though I don't really like doing them. It's a hassle and you have to worry if the other site owner may remove your link in the future, if the link is really relevant, etc. Now if you can get a link from a big site like about.com or something, that's a good one.

You can submit your site to sites like Dig and social bookmarking sites, too. Google generally indexes those quickly.

Also, if you can make a little "how-to" video in your niche, especially targeted to a keyword, that can get indexed and bring you traffic fast.

The best thing to do is to work little by little on the traffic and continue to build strong content pages on your own site - centered around keywords in a logical, clear site structure that's easy for the search engines to spider.

And Pay Per Click can be a good way to bring in traffic fast, especially if you've got a landing page that converts well. But do that while you build up your organic traffic, too.
