I too think that it's better to spend the money on self-education than on marketing (especially in the beginning when you don't know what you are doing). And even after I learned how to market effectively, I'd rather spend time than money.

I started my affiliate marketing career when I was embarrassingly broke and kind of got accustomed to working with as little as possible. That being, domains, web hosting, and AWeber.

I have read about Adwords, but have been leary because I was warned it could end up costing me money. As for anything I have paid out, I am just getting started, so am using my blog and not an actual web site at this point. I think I paid a total of $17 to get information on affiliate marketing.

Back to the original...is adwords a good way to go, or would I end up losing money if I went down that road?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

I've never spent a dime in marketing myself either and have been making a living online for the past 6 yrs.. Not bad for a $0 marketing in 6 yrs (other than my web host and domain name fees)

Congrats to you too!

How do you guys make a living in online marketing without an autoresponder?

I most definitely invest in domain, hosting, autoresponder, PLR, outsourcing and stuff like that as an affiliate marketer. You should never have to pay to join an affiliate program though.

I am relatively new at internet marketing and can't really afford to spend any money on my marketing. So far it is just domain and hosting.

I haven't broken down just yet to go for the autoresponder. Should this be a priority?

Autoresponders are nice and convenient, but I don't use them as what I've been doing consist of me doing only 3 sales and I have enough income for the entire year so I market my butt off on all the free sites online 24/7 to meet my 2 or 3 sales and then take it easy or make more sales... (I also do affiliates on the side)

Even my current webhost is only $20 every 6 months ( I believe ) LOL
And most webhost now include autoresponders too (commercial)

Is not easy making a living on a $0 marketing cost.
I do, however, invest a lot of "sweat" Marketing

Happy Holidays To All

I pay for hosting and I'm about to add an autoresponder in there.

I did get a $100 Adwords credit which I used to start building a list on a new website, but I paused the campaign after the credit was used

I would be willing to do more PPC, though, if I had a good ROI.

I should add that my webhost includes a great basic autoresponder and a mailing list engine that is perfect for my established site. I just need a more fully featured 3rd party responder for the new site.
