There are dangers with affiliate marketing. Many websites have special programs that take the traffic to their own pages and not your affiliate page. It is done by some affiliate companies. So you will draw a lot of traffic to your website but you will not be earning. If you have your own website, it is better. You can compare the number of visitors to your site, see the pages they are clicking and compare with your earnings. This way, you can tell if you are been cheated.

You can have an affiliate without a website. You can promote the link in article directories, forums and social bookmarks. You must however obtain your links from reputable companies.

A website is a must. If you're having difficulty coming up with content, I definitely suggest hiring a ghost writter. Also, try working on just one website at a time and devoting all your time and energy on it rather then skipping around and losing patience. There is no online business more profitable than affiliate marketing, but it takes time. You will NOT succeed overnight. Article marketing and forums are a good way to generate traffic and such but they will most likely not yield a substantial amount of sales.

I think this was perhaps from a couple of years ago or more, when "non-blog web sites" were difficult/complicated, required knowing "HTML" and so on, none of which is still the case.

The people I know in affiliate marketing started off with their own web sites, of course, but not using blogs per se.

In these days of simple, non-HTML web site builders, and blogging software with static pages, there's virtually no difference, really: a blog is just a web site that's been specifically designed to be regularly updated, but so many other types of web site can also be regularly updated now that it's very nearly a meaningless distinction.

Many imagine that it's "better to use a blog because Google loves blogs", but I understand it isn't the fact that they're blogs (i.e. made from software originally designed for blogging purposes) that Google really loves; it's just the fact that they're regularly updated web sites - which all search engines identify and crawl, whatever they were made from.

I, too, find that Google loves blogs. I use wordpress which is super easy to manage and so many plugins and templates available. There's really no reason not to have a website of your own within a matter of minutes.

Default You really do need a website

To make affiliate marketing work, you really do need a site.

But until you get going, you can use any of the free blogs, squidoo, hub pages, etc. There are a lot of tools that are free and you are able to insert widgets that will help you start growing YOUR list of subscribers. It is critical that you have an autoresponder and start growing you list of followers.

The biggest part of it is, persistence! Keep at it!

Much good luck to you

Wink

Running an internet business without a website in today's world is like trying to sell a product without any form of marketing.

I will tell you one thing: if even someone as backward, computer-illiterate, internet-illiterate and technophobic as I am can have a web site, these days, anyone can have a web site!
