When starting out, you might want to do some writing for others to make ends meet so that you can start putting money away to get your business going. Don't simply use free sites because you want to "own" your own real estate when it comes to working online. It is great to use those sites to drive traffic, but don't depend on Squidoo, Blogger, etc for your total income because if they change their rules or don't like something about your site (which happens a lot), then you can be out of business in a snap!

I did set up a forum on my website about a year ago, but found that it just got too much spam on it, it was just ridiculous, and unless I was willing to stay up all night to filter through it and get rid of the junk, I just couldn't control it, unfortunately.

I think it's fantastic that people are making money from Affiliate marketing.

I primarily market one product/service and the very first week I made $150. That is not something to brag about but it's more than I made with my other home business the first three months! The GREAT part is this income is residual and they pay a bonus.

Breakdown:
1) $10 for every active affiliate or customer
2) $5 for everyone they refer (so if someone from a candle company uses the product to help their business grow you KNOW they are going to automatically refer this product to their upline, downline, sideline and everyone else they know in business which is automatic money in your pocket EVERY month because it's residual.
3) BONUS is $100 for every 5 active referrals in a 30 day period. So, if you sign up 20 people (which is not hard to do) you make $400 extra that month.

Great Income From Home

I'm sort of new to affiliate marketing...

How are you guys starting out if you don't mind me asking? Are you having a site created? Do one-page sites? A Blog to promote your affiliate programs? Pick a niche and then just put it any and everywhere?

I have a specific niche I want to target but I feel like I'm back at the drawing board.

I see all kinds of claims 'start your affiliate program and start making cash RIGHT NOW'...even if it's not BIG cash, I see this nonetheless and just wanted to know how this is done?

Lakeisha, my situation may be different (or maybe not) as I'm very new to this as well. My situation arose from the abundance of emails I was getting from my business blog and I knew that I could provide info to all these people, but it really wasn't going to jive with my business blog.

I love to write and help so setting up another blog was no big deal, but I try to limit myself these days to things that are profitable. That's where affiliate marketing came into my new blog. I invested in a few ebooks from people I knew and TRUSTED (none offering me a million dollars for doing nothing) and started reading and planning.

I'm providing quality content with some product reviews of things I use and love myself. That's the route I'm choosing this time around and once this one gets more consistent in income I already have a lot of new ideas I've read about that I'd like to try, but I'm not starting anything new until this one is pretty self-sustaining.

Right now I'm not a big fan of the one-page-sales-page type websites, if for no other reason than I as a consumer have to be pre-sold. I don't buy anything from those myself unless it's from someone I already follow and trust or is recommended by someone I know and trust. That may change as I go through my steps for this one, but who knows.

That's my method for now and I'm happy thus far. I have my AM guides, I'm writing content (on blog and through article marketing), I'm using social media and I'm a serial blog stalker. Every blog I visit, I take note of what I do like and don't like and make a mental note in relation to my own blog. lol

Lakeisha,
Welcome to affiliate marketing! I love it!

I started out with a website and added a blog to it. I use XSitePro web design software for the static site and Wordpress (.org) hosted on my domain for the blog portion. One page sites work best for single product/service sales. A blog is probably easiest to start. Yes, you should have a specific niche in mind, do some research to find if it's a viable niche and then start adding good content to your blog. Over time, you'll also add relevant products from various affiliate programs. This is much more than adding buttons and banners like many people still do.

Affiliate marketing is not just one program, you can use various affiliate networks to find a wide variety of products to promote. The claims you see are most times scams where people try to call it affiliate marketing/program when it's really not. Affiliate marketing takes time. You need to learn about keyword research, search engine optimization, content writing, article marketing and the list goes on.

Does this help?

Thank you ladies,

YES your advice does help a LOT. I am willing to put it to work, and I want to get it to a point where it's bringing traffic on autopilot.

I did this with a site for a company I was with before and it was a great feeling...it took a year but when it started happening it's like the best feeling ever lol

So I will take all of your advice and get it going! I'll let you all know how it goes. )

My most important piece of advice would be to set up the system to build your list as the foundation of your business. Your list = recurring sales. Your list = freedom. Your list = working from HOME.
Any tips on getting traffic to your site to build your list? Do you article marketing?
