I have never tried it, but I know people who have been successful with search engine marketing (SEM). You don't need your own website as you use things like Adwords to buy keywords for your campaigns and then instead of pointing the links to your own website, you simply place your affiliate link there and it goes straight to the vendor's landing page. If you are really against having your own site, this may be something that you can look into and find more about. It's not easy though, as you have to spend money to make money and it is much riskier than simply driving traffic to your own site.
