Just enlarge a little on CERENE's discussion on dashes using Alt 169 ® you get the registered trademark which should be used when discussing the above mentioned products Microsoft®.
There are a couple of others that may be of interest Alt 11 ♂ and Alt 12 ♀ which are just mentioned in the passing. Though many of the alternative characters can be displayed by pressing the Alt + any number in the range 1 to 256. Some of the numbers will display the normal keys on the keyboard and another that may be useful is Alt 156 £, hope someone finds this information useful.
