Want to get started with certifying myself as a Medical Transcriptionist, however i have two options of at home schooling to go with. Has anyone been certified through any of these correspondence schools i.e PCDI or At Home Professions? My real question really is has anyone obtained a job after being certified by one of these schools? Just hard to know which one is worth it. Both have great info and i just don't know exactly what a potential employer would be looking for as a medical transcriptionist. Which poses another question: What do i Really need to know? If anyone has any advice please reply.

Hello, i can tell you about "AY HOME PROFESSIONS" i paid $700.00 for the whole course. i passed with a 93 gpa. all you will get is a piece of paper after ( looks like a diploma ) that says. " your name has completed studies for medical transcription. blah blah blah, you can do work at home for medical etc, all you need is to look up stuff study ,materials, dont spend $700.00 or more on a course, like i did. i have a post up here cause im selling my course i bought from them the test are complete but when i sent them back to the school they grade it and send it back and they put the right answers in. but im selling all of mine for $135.00 . and its through at home professions. if interested heres my email...solous2000@yahoo.com

Hi, I do have some info that might help you. First of all you don't get certified by the school, the only way to get certified is through the AAMT. They have a website, AAMT.org, anyway with any course all you get is a certificate that says you completed the course. There are better schools you might want to check out before you limit yourself to those two, Andrews, MTEC, CAI and Career Step are all very good and the grads get hired from these schools only after they show the certificate of completion and pass an employment test. Then it is recommeded that you look into getting certified after working for a year or two through the AAMT. I hope this helps, if you need more info please let me know. I am taking a course now but have done a lot of research. Good luck.
If you want excellent advice, from a MT who has been working at home for a total of nine years, come to the chat on Tuesday nights at www.BizyMoms.com. It starts at 11:00p.m. Eastern time...10:00 Central time, or 8:00 Pacific time. Wendy Keller is the host, and MT, and she will answer ANY questions you have. She is a wonderful help for anyone who wants to get into this profession. I decided to become an MT after being in her chats for a couple of months, as she was able to answer any questions I had. Also, she makes herself available at all times by giving you her e-mail address, and answers her e-mails several times a day. You won't find many people that will do this, or that are as honest and forthright as Wendy is. She is truly a magnificent person! She volunteers her time, and has NOTHING to sell you, ever! Just go to BizyMoms, click on chats, type in your first name, and click on "Log into Chat". I assure you, you will be SO glad when you get your questions answered!!! Oh, and by the way, most MT's are NOT Certified. It is just a way for the AAMT to make money! Most employers never even ask if you have a Certification....they hire based on the results of the test they give you. I hope I have helped you, and if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me.... PepsiMom13@aol.com.

I did PCDI, but I did not look into other ones before I started. You may want to look around and see if anything is a better deal. But, I took the class and never was able to finish it beacuse by that point I was too busy with all of the work I had. So, it worked for me.
Wanted to add something because I think I made that sound too easy. I got to the end of the course and had everything done, but my computer died. When I got a new one I did not have time to redo the work I had already done. That was a year and a half after I started the course so I already had gained some experience and contacts.
