I am looking for a LEGITAMATE work at home job. I am sick of finding something and then find out I have to pay a fee or buy software. I really don't want to go back to work, but there is no way we can live off of one income. I am a new mom of a four month old son, I don't want to miss all of his "firsts". I love working on the computer, preferably off line. If anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate it ASAP. Thank you.

work at home jobs are totally different from home business which is what network marketing and MLM is name me one business that anyone can start without putting some income into it. Even if you sell pencils you still have to buy the pencil. Working at home even if you do offline work is going to entail building a business whether it is hitting the road to find clients in which case you use gasoline which cost money, print fliers and post ads which will cost money, ask someone how much food cost for an in home day care. I get real tired of people who say they want to work from home and have a business but are unwilling to invest in themselves to make it a reality. Go ask a franchiser how much he paid for his McDonalds and then be glad if you can find a wonderful proven Network Marketing or Direct Sales company to work with for under $100 dollars. It takes time to build a home based business and effort and dedication and MONEY. Nancy Johnson

Hello tinkerbell; I defintitely understand your situation, but I also agree with internetmom, at least in part, even though I own a home business that is not MLM. I enjoy my biz. I like helping others get started in business. I like travel. The first thing you want to do is decide what YOU like. What businesses are available out there is second to what YOU WANT TO DO. In other words, know what you want before you start looking.
I can understand that you are worried about paying a fee. Most people are. What is important to understand is that it is not the fee; it is what the fee is used for. When I began my business I knew that the fee was for my client software, my merchant account, my products, etc. Just because a bizopp requires a fee doesn't mean it isn't legitimate. I wish they were giving away merchant accounts, advertising, and e-commerce storefronts on the street corners, but they're not so I have to pay a fee. Just make sure you know what the fee is being used for. If it's lining someone's pocket, then you should be more cautious. However, if your fee is for your products, the right to sell them, etc. then what is the problem? I hope you find somehting that is rewarding and fits your needs. Good Luck.
Going back to internetmom, I get annoyed with people that don't want to pay a fee, but want to sit around and do nothing all day and expect that their income will just fall on their laps. Those "you-mean-I-have-to-WORK-to-make-more-money" people who expect $10 million dollars in 8 months are precisely the types that make themselves more susceptible to scams. They get turned off by a legit bizopp because they have to place a few classified ads or make a few phone calls and jump right in to a "million-dollars-in-3-days" hustle to avoid doing any work. I hope that those people change their mentality and realize that nothing of any substance comes without a few responsibilities.

I also agree with internetmom, if you want to own your own business and be your own boss there is usually a cost associated with it, like she said a mcdonalds franchise is millions of dollars and it takes years before you see a dime of it. I'm involved in a home based business where you honestly can get your investment back the first week. I enjoy it and it allows me the time freedom to spend more time with my kids. email me at mame@up2me.com if you want more info.

As far as making an investment to start your own business at home you also have to look at the flip side, starting your own business out side of your home, and few things you need to take into consideration when making the comparison, this is a lsit of the things you will NOT have to pay for when starting your own business at home.
1) You don't have to pay $2500.00+ for a professionally prepared business plan that the SBA or bank would except to even consider financing you (a little note on this the SBA requires you to inject 20% equity into the loan by means of a second mortgage on your home or cash and this is held for the duration of the loan which is typically 5 to 10 years + you must have an exceptional credit rating) 2)incorporations fees (if this is done by your attorney the fee will be upwards of $1000.00) 3)lease property deposits + rent monthly 4)utility deposits + monthly payments 5)equipment & inventory purchases 6)advertising $ yellow page listing 7)can't forget daycare expense & time away from your family 8)etc etc etc This investment like any comes with NO guarantee of success, but if you fold on an outside business you are still responsible for the term of the lease, loans and other obligations. So when comparing the two I would say an initial investment of under $1000.00 is a very small price to pay to be in business for your self. Just a few things to consider!

Tinkerbell, I agree that it can be frustrating to find legitimate opportunities, but also agree with the others, that there are usually costs associated with getting a job and keeping a job (for a regular 9-5 job, you'll usually go out and buy some appropriate clothing, right? Then gas, childcare, etc.). Being a SAHM myself for several years, I've done many, many things to generate income, some involving costs and some not (including MLM). I have a web site myself that lists the various ways I've made money. If you are interested, you can email me and I'll give you the link.

This is some months later but I do hope that you have a homebased business. Even if you do not want a business opportunity with a fee you still have to come up with some kind of money to begin working from home. I did medical transcription and I had to buy books and transcribers etc. It cost a lot. Now I have an opportunity that cost me a lot less than what I had to pay in the medical transcription work. No matter what, if you want to work at home with your own business you must invest something to start.

I totally see where Tinkerbell is coming from. I am in the same situation. In her defense, I want to point out what I feel she is in search of, and also what I am looking for. We would like a job working FOR someone, and collecting our paycheck FROM someone. Personally, I am not looking to start my own business. The reason being that at this point and time in my life, if I take the risk, the time, and the money, to start my own business, and I fail, my debts rack up. More seriously, I will not be able to give my children the necessities they require. That to me, is just not worth the risk at this time in my life. If I was the only one making the sacrifice of not having food on the table and clothes on my back, then I'd take the risk. That is not the case however, and I am determined to find what I am looking for. I do not want my own business, I want a JOB. The thing that frusterates me is that I know these things are out there and have known people in the past who have worked for a company from home. In my present situation, I have two children that go to school all day, and I was looking to work outside of the home while they were in school. I have not been able to find a decent paying job out there with a boss willing to let me work the hours between the time I drop my kids off and have to leave to pick them up. Everyone wants me to be "flexible." My husbands work schedule and hours vary daily, so I can not be sure that he could be there for the kids if I can not. With summer vacation coming up, that poses another problem. We have recently moved to a state where we don't know a soul, and have no family or friends to help lend a hand. We absolutley refuse to use daycare, and want at least one of us to be here for our children at all times. Not to mention, be available for the occasional school function or when our children are home sick. Lets face it, if I do find a job outside of the home while they are at school, there will come a time that I will not be available to be there for them, and that thought breaks my heart. It is something I can not bear, and will do whatever I can to work at home without putting their best interest at risk. I am willing to work hard, put in many hours, even if I have to lose sleep to do it. I do not need a get-rich-quick scheme; I just simply want to be able to pay my bills each month. All of my work experience has been in the dental and medical field, but I have the ability to learn just about anything. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for those of us looking for a "job" from home, please share. We have the energy and determination, but are needing the resources.

The best places for you to look for a job is at the online job sites. Here are two that are free for you to use: www.jobsonline.com and www.vault.com
If you look at the work at home sites than you will be charged a fee, because those places are advertising a business from home not a job. A business from home is just that. You own and run your own business, but you are doing it out of your home instead of a store or restaurant.
A job from home will not charge you any fees, because you are an employee working for someone else. If someone says that it is a job from home- not a business from home- and they want to charge you a fee- then that is a scam!
To be honest it is very hard to find a legitimate job from home unless you are working for a large corporation and they have telecommuting jobs. Or you have a strong resume and technical background where you could be a consultant.
Those "jobs from home" usually aren't jobs. In most cases you are paying a fee, and you also have to go out and sell your services to companies who will hire you as a consultant. So please check those types of "jobs" out very carefully.
I worked for a large corporation out of my home, but I had 15+ years of senior sales experience. I worked more hours and much harder out of my home than when I worked out of an office. And my health suffered because of it. My husband and I run our own business from home, and we have a lot more family time now.
I don't want to discourage you, but I do want you to be aware of the uphill battle to find a legitimate job from home. This is why so many people have opted for a business from home instead.

I agree with all the "I want a work-from-home JOB, not a home business" sentiments. I am looking for a monthly income so I can stay home with my baby (to be born in August). My main issue with all of the home businesses is that I have absolutely no interest in any type of sales. I have a pretty good resume -- including a law degree, but I am having a difficult time finding work that I can do from home. I'm sure it's out there, but I am, obviously, not using the right venues to find it. Any suggestions that anyone can give me would be GREATLY appreciated. I can understand you you feel. I also want a home JOB, not a home BUSINESS. I think that there is some confusion over the difference between the two. It is unfortunate that the terms have been used interchangeably. Of course, you cannot expect to get a home business without some form of financial investment, but if you are just merely looking for a job, why should you have to pay someone to work for them? If I worked for AT&T, do you think they would charge me for using their software? Not hardly. I don't agree with anyone just sitting around, expecting to rake in the money; things just don't happen that way in the real world. I expect and am well capable of putting in the work necessary to get things done. But, if all I want to do is work, not form a business, then WORK should be my investment to my EMPLOYER, not my money.

Hi Girls, My name is Jill Bianchi. With my husband Ed, a former Electrical Engineer, we are in a MLM business. Ed has been in MLM for 6 years. We got married just two years ago and he is one of my mentors in MLM (most of the time my favorite one!) We are living in Buford, GA right now. We believe that in life, it’s all about good relationships, you will get what you give. We’re unwilling to lose our reputation, that’s why we give our names right away (you will see our phone # at the end of these lines as well), especially online where people can be anonymous.
What we do. I know all of you are busy people so do you mind if I cut right to the chase? I'm not sure if this is for you but it will give you the money you are looking for. Let me ask you this. How would you like to earn an on-going residual monthly income whenever someone turns on their lights, watches TV, heats or cools their home, receives a page, makes a long distance or local telephone call, uses the Internet or even shops for products over the Internet? I’m sure you realize by now, that the companies that bill you every month like this concept a lot. WHAT IF..there were a way where you could partner up with any of these companies and position yourself to earn money in the same way? Or how would you like JUST to SAVE money on money you are already spending on those bills? See, whether you like it or not you are involved in the business, so why do you position yourself in the pay end when you can position yourself in the receiving end? Let’s say you came to me and say: “Jill, if I can show you a way to save you up to 30% of your phone bill with no cost and no commitment, would you try my service? Please”. I say YES; then every month that I pay my phone bill you receive a percentage of my bill in form of a check. Now I want you to get the phenomenon of what you just did. You didn’t ask for any money out of my pocket, you don’t have to teach me how to use the phone, you don’t have to come back six months later to ask me, “Jill, do you need more dial tone?” Look at yourself right now. What are you doing in front of your PC? Literally NOTHING, right? Even though you need electricity, you need a phone line, you need an Internet Service Provider. Your utility bill is getting bigger right now and you are doing nothing! Did you unplug the refrigerator last night when you went to sleep? Somebody was making money while you were sleeping, right? How do you like that concept? Does it make sense? Can I have your attention now? Is it worth at least a brief conversation?
About the Company This is not a scam. This is a remarkable opportunity offered by one of the fastest growing companies, in one of the fastest growing industries today. From revenues of $2 million in its first year, annual revenues have skyrocketed to more than $100 million in 1997, and are projected to top $1 billion in the near future. The November 1998 issue of INC. Magazine reports ACN (American Communications Network), #22 among the 500 “Fastest Growing Privately Held Companies in America!" ACN specializes in the marketing of deregulated Telecommunication, Natural Gas and Electricity services, as Internet and e-commerce services. A staff of hundreds of highly qualified professionals supports the efforts of thousands of independent representatives throughout the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Norway and The Netherlands. No selling, no inventory, no billing, no collections. Even better, we HELP people save money on services they are going to use ANYWAY month after month, year after year. We get pay month after month, year after year for as long the people use our services. By introducing others, to the opportunity to build a business with ACN, you will also be eligible to receive a share of the wholesale purchase of your growing organization of Distributors. 1- Nine year old company. 2- Outstanding compensation plan: monthly and weekly checks. 3- Services that everybody uses their whole life. 4- High level of ownership and management. 5- Ethical upline support with a proven track record. Outstanding team/training support available to help you succeed. 6- It just makes SENSE and the money is crazy! 7- Leads? Let’s say somebody tells you: “It’s not going to work, it’s a scam!” Ask that person “what is the first thing you will do when you get home tonight?” They will probably replay, “Turn on the lights” What about the TV or music? What about taking something out of the refrigerator to cook? What about returning phone messages or e-mails? How hard can it be to get leads?
Now, What about you? Are you a leader? Can you make decisions? Do you mind making more money than what you can expend in one month? Do you have a high work ethic? Do you have integrity? If you can say YES to all of these questions, if this concept makes sense to you, and you are willing to earn money or just save money, then we can talk in the next 24hs.
In Closing I would like to give you the resources we have on line for more detailed information. We have three powerful videos on the Internet that will give you high quality info so you can make an informed decision. Let me suggest that you follow the sources as follows, as this will assure that you receive the whole picture in the right order. Keep in mind that you can do this at your own pace. 1- Go to: www.myupline.com 2- Select "Guests" 3- Click on "Videos" 4- Select "Brilliant Compensation" by Dr Charles King, doctorate from Harvard Business University. I look at it like this....anyone who wants a fee up front I am edgy about, because if I go anywhere to get a job, I don't have to pay anyone to interview or hire me and normally you don't owe them money when you quit or get fired, which did happen to me. I have found something that is perfect for me and it had a small initial cost, but it wasn't for a start-up kit or training or anything like that.
