Ok, here is my situation, or at least the short version. There is this person who owes me over $3000. It is court ordered and accrues interest every month that she doesn't pay. Needless to say, she hasn't paid me a dime yet and its been like 3 years. I know her home address and phone number but I can't do anything with it. I need to know if she is working and where so I can garnish her wages.
Is there anyway I can find this out without hiring a PI or anything like that? Ya know, kinda free and doing it myself? LOL!

Go to the library and find a Polks or Cross Reference book. These books usually have the employment as well as home information of just about anybody. The books are done by city and state. The library should be able to direct you on this as well.Hope this helps .

Ummm...in my area all you do is file for wage garnishment, and it's up to the courts to hunt her down. Call your clerks office and ask.

I would suggest caution if you decide to follow her...she may owe you but also could turn the tables and place a protection order for stalking if she found out.
My suggestion would be to call up any landlord or other person who is often "burned" by non-payment and ask them the procedure for actually "collecting" the money. Some use collection services but the agencies do get a percentage of the money owed. It may be worth it with this large an amount. I know they have the means to track down employment and garnish tax refunds, etc. If she is working for cash that could present a problem too. Can you 1099 her or something for the amount, or place a bad debt notice on her credit report? I'm not sure about that at all or if you would actually see any of the money.
Best wishes - if I come up with any useful info I will share it.

I have talked to the people at the court house about this and here they won't do it for me. But all I need to do is find where she works or where she banks and I can freeze her accounts at the bank and garnish her wages until it is paid off. I talked to my last landlord and he does go through a collection agency but I don't think that I will be able to as it is not for business purposes. There is also a bad debt notice on her credit report. The only other thing I can do through the courts is have a form sent to her asking her questions as to where she works, etc but she isn't court ordered to completely fill it out. Just court ordered to send it back by a certain date and if it isn't filled out its too bad. Its irritating that they don't help. Also, I can have them take her car and sell it at a police auction but I'm not guaranteed the full amount of what she owes me and I have to pay for storage for the car until the police auction which could be over $500.
I'm not afraid of following her as she won't really do anything about it. She has already tried to put a restraining order on me but never showed up in court. Not to mention she lied about what happened because we didn't do anything wrong. So as far as following her, I don't have a problem with it, other than I have 2 kids. LOL!
I will check with the collection agency here in town and see if they will help me again.
If you can think of anything else please let me know.

Were going through the same thing April.
We were told also that they (unless it was child support) will not locate the person for us that it is our responsibility. When we find them we place an order for wage garnishments.
We can not have a protection order placed on us for locating them due to a court order stating that they owe us money and that was our sole purpose for locating them. If we didnt have the court order we would be introuble.
