It is said that it only takes 3 seconds for people to size you up both personally and in business. And, usually you only get one chance to make a good first impression. In many cases that first impression to win a potential customer is through the use of collateral materials (business card, letter, brochure, newsletter, etc.)
So, my question this week is:

How do you use collateral materials to effectively promote yourself or your business?

Unfortunately, I don't have any good tips on this one, as I'm always looking for ones myself.

However, I just found out yesterday, that the owner of Tshirts w/ a Personal Touch, got us a new marketing tool...

Lip balms that have a tiny tshirt logo, w/ our website, name, # and email address imprinted on them.

This way, each time a person uses the chapstick, they will be reminded about the website.

I thought this was a great idea.

I've been seeing a lot of business-card CDs, these days. They fit into my card-file with other b-cards but pop it in the CD drive on the 'puter and there's so much more information, like a whole website right there! I think that's too cool. Wonder if they're really expensive? Some of the ones I've seen are for small companies, like craft people.

Also, I still like ballpoint pens as a promo item, just like Ian's mom's really clever chapstick idea you are reminded all the time.

I have handouts ready at all times - a large envelope designed by me that contains a biz card cd (the label carries all the info of a printed card + our website/special offers/etc on the CD), a computer screen brush (seemed the best fit for a computer related business), a simple flier, and a full color brochure - clients-to-be not only see what I have to offer, they see my actual work

Since I'm in the paper business, my business card is actually a mini top-fold notecard. It's not much larger in size than a traditional business card, but contains alot more info without being crowded.

And, I always put some type of special coupon code for a discount. People are much less apt to throw it away since it looks more like a note card...just smaller.
