Can anyone link me to a picture of a blown vein? The reason I ask is because I donated plasma today (my 3rd time doing it) and I think they blew my vein. When I got home and took the gauze off my arm was bruised (about the size of a dime around the injection site. I hadn't bruised at all prior to this donation). A few hours later I noticed that there is now a purple line on my arm about a 1/2 inch from the injection site (I'm assuming that it is one of my veins). I don't understand why its not right on the injection site though.
Anyone have any advice or links? The plasma center is closed until tomorrow and I'd like to try and get some answers. Other than the bruise and the purple line I feel fine. I've tried to search the internet but I haven't come up with anything. My husband is going to freak when he sees my arm.

If I were you, I'd call your "Ask A Nurse" if you have one in your area or the ER Triage Nurse and explain it. They may suggest that you have it checked out.

Brandy, if nothing else, the people who poked you were overly-rough. When giving blood in the past, I must have gotten someone who was less-experienced, or something, because these people would have to "dig around" in my arm to find a vein. I'd go home with brusing, but NEVER a LINE!!! This line that you have worries me. I would definitely drop by the ER just to get it checked out. Is the line traveling?? If that line starts traveling up your arm, please go to the ER right away!!

Nope, the lines not traveling. I had the nurse check it when we had my sons stitches taken out yesterday (he fell walking down the hall and hit the door jamb just right. Ended up with 5 stitches in his forehead). She said it is a blown vein and should heal up with no problem. I figured that's what it was because I had one about 4 years ago when I was pregnant and they took some blood. I think it was the same arm too. I may just have them stay away from that arm LOL!
They usually have no problem finding a vein. I found out I even have one vein that runs side to side instead of up and down LOL! I'm wondering if she put it in that one and that's what caused it.
